Food Our Medicine — Medicine Our Food

As to diseases, make a habit of two things — to help, or at least, to do no harm.

As to diseases, make a habit of two things — to help, or at least, to do no harm.

Greek Physician, Scientist and the Father of Medicine wrote these profound words of wisdom that really were meant to steer medicine in a more natural direction.

Everyone has a doctor in him or her; we just have to help it in its work. The natural healing force within each one of us is the greatest force in getting well. Our food should be our medicine. Our medicine should be our food. But to eat when you are sick, is to feed your sickness.  — Hippocrates (460 BC – 377 BC)

I lifted the following article with picture from a post by Veganism on Face Book.  Lots of good information here. Enjoy!

Food as MedicineFood is medicine and organic fruits and vegetables take center stage in achieving ultimate health and longevity. Morally and ethically, what is on the end of your fork clearly defines your approach to compassion, your environment, your health and well being. The following foods are valuable in sustaining your health, embracing life and avoiding surgeries, prescription drugs and the inevitable .

BLUEBERRIES POWERFUL ANTIOXIDANTS

The dye that is released from the blueberries’ skin may well be the most valuable nutrient the fruit has to offer. The pigments in blueberries and also in red crops such as cherries, plums, and red cabbage are powerful antioxidants. They have been determined to be a much-heralded chemical warrior against heart disease and also cancer. Blueberries actually have the highest antioxidant capacity because of their large anthocyanin concentration.

Antioxidants in our food can save us from virtually everything. Most of our health misfortunes are due to the perversity of oxygen. Our cells are perpetually besieged by toxic forms of oxygen which have been proved to have fierce destructive powers. So far scientists have linked destructive oxygen reactions to at least sixty different chronic diseases, as well as to aging itself. Oxygen free radicals can attack DNA, the genetic material of cells, causing them to mutate, which is a step on the path to cancer.

RED CABBAGE A POWERFUL DETOX FOOD

Red cabbage is a good source of phytonutrients that help to detoxify pollutants and other carcinogens that most people are exposed to on a daily basis. Like other cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli, it’s high in glucosinolates, compounds which are metabolized by the body to form powerful cancer fighting chemicals known as isothiocyanates. Isothiocyanates activate the liver enzymes that break down carcinogens, allowing them to be safely eliminated from the body. People who consume high quantities of cruciferous vegetables have been shown to have a lower risk of certain types of cancer. Red cabbage is also a good source of indoles, compounds that may reduce the risk of breast cancer by altering estrogen metabolism.

RED BEETS HAVE ANTI-CARCINOGENS

Red Beet is unique for its high levels of anti-carcinogens and its very high carotenoid content. Red beets are high in carbohydrates and low in fat and it is an excellent source of folic acid. It is loaded with antioxidant that helps the body against heart disease, certain cancer especially colon cancer and even birth defects. Betacyanin is the pigment that gives beets their red color; this pigment is absorbed into the blood corpuscles and can increase the oxygen-carrying ability of the blood by up to 400 per cent. Don’t throw away the green leafy tops as they can be cooked like spinach and are also rich in beta-carotene, folic acid, chlorophyll, potassium, vitamin C, and iron.

BEET ROOT FOR LEUKEMIA

Beet root is a traditional treatment used for leukemia. Beet root contain an amino acid betaine which has an anti cancer properties. Red beet therapy, consisting of consumption of approximately two pounds of raw, mashed beets daily, has been favorably reported for cases of leukemia and tumors (includes cancer). Research also shows that beet juice can help inhibit the development of colon and stomach cancer. It is believed that red beets when eaten regularly may help against certain oxidative stress-related disorders. The fiber in red beets helps reduce serum cholesterol by 30 to 40%.Beets can help in normalizing blood pressure.

BEETS FOR HEALTHY ARTERIES AND VEINS

Beets helps to keep the elasticity of arteries, when consumed regularly it can help prevent varicose veins. The iron content of red beets, though not high but is of the finest quality that makes it a powerful cleanser and builder of blood. This is the reason why beets is very effective in treating many ailments caused by toxic environment and surrounding.

BEETS HAVE FOLIC ACID NEEDED IN PREGNANCY

Beet root is recommended for pregnant women because it contains folic acid that can help lower the risk of spinabifida and other neural tube defects in newborn infants.Beet juice helps stimulate the function of liver cells and protect the liver and bile ducts. Beet juice is highly alkaline which makes it effective in the treatment of acidosis. Drinking beets regularly can help relieve constipation. Beet juice and carrot juice when combined is excellent in the healing gout, kidney and gall bladder problem. You can tell that I love beets, I eat and juice at least six beets and the tops everyday religiously. One of my nicknames at the health food store that I frequent is “beet-man.”

CRUCIFEROUS VEGETABLES DETOXIFY THE LIVER

Vegetables that are members of the cruciferous, or cabbage, family not only contain fiber and many vitamins and minerals (including antioxidants) that promote optimal health, they also contain sulforaphane and indole-3-carbinol. These phytonutrients have been shown to stimulate enzymes in the body that help the liver remove carcinogens (and other toxic chemicals) and deactivate a powerful estrogen metabolite that promotes tumor growth.

STOP TUMOR GROWTH IN THE BREAST — ANTI-CANCER FOOD

According to the American Institute for Cancer Research, various components in cruciferous vegetables have been shown to stop tumor growth in the breast, uterine lining, cervix, colon, lung, and liver and according to studies monitoring diets, eating calciferous vegetables can lower ones risk of getting prostate cancer. Broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cauliflower, mustard greens, radishes and mustard greens.

KALE FOR THE EYES

Kale is absolutely rich and abundant in calcium, lutein, iron, and Vitamins A, C, and K. Kale has seven times the beta-carotene of broccoli and ten times more lutein. Kale is rich in Vitamin C not to mention the much needed fiber so lacking in the daily diet of processed food eating Americans. The “Icing on the Kale” are the naturally occurring all important phytochemicals sulforaphane and indoles which research suggests may protect against cancer. Let’s not forget the all important antioxidant Vitamin E. Rest assured kale spares nothing in providing one with much needed nutrients and associated health benefits. The naturally rich sulfur content of kale deserves a bit more discussion.

Science has discovered that sulforaphane, helps boost the body’s detoxification enzymes, possibly by altering gene expression. This is turn is purported to help clear carcinogenic substances in a timely manner. Sulforaphane is formed when cruciferous vegetables like kale are chopped or chewed. This somehow triggers the liver to produce enzymes that detoxify cancer causing chemicals, of which we all are exposed on daily basis. A recently new study in the Journal of Nutrition (2004) demonstrates that sulforaphane helps stop breast cancer cell proliferation.

BEANS ARE COMPLEX CARBOHYDRATES

Beans are an often-overlooked source of incredible health benefits. – They have a lot of carbs, leading people to believe they should be avoided and seen as a weight gain risk only. Nothing could be farther from the truth though, as research has shown that the carbohydrates found in most beans are of the complex variety.

Complex carbohydrates are not contributors to any sort of weight gain, instead providing the brain and muscles with a lot of good, stable energy supplies. Beans actually contain a wider variety of healthy nutrients than most foods. These include calcium, potassium, vitamin B6, magnesium, folate, and alpha-linolenic acid. These nutrients work together on several key areas of the body promoting total health.

SOURCE OF COMPLETE PROTEINS

Beans also happen to be good sources of complete proteins, which is rare in plants. Plants, while having many different nutrients, often lack complete proteins of any kind. This is unfortunate, as protein is a vital ingredient to the healthy and normal functioning of the human body, and the most readily available sources of protein have negative effects on the heart. Beans, however, are plentiful in protein. Most of the commotion that beans are generating in the scientific community has to do with the fact that they are showing to provide protection from many of the most feared and lethal diseases plaguing Americans today.

Studies done in universities have shown that eating beans on a regular basis reduces a person’s risk of developing diabetes, heart disease, cancer, and obesity. Sometimes the reduction in risk is substantial. The risk for heart disease, for example, may be reduced by as much as 22%. Beans help to curb hunger, and offer the body valuable sources of ready energy that it can burn quickly and effectively. Because of this, beans boost energy levels, and as a result, promote weight loss.

POWERFUL LITTLE FOOD

Beans are powerful little foods that have been ignored for far too long. Associated with Carbohydrates and gas, current studies have done a wonderful job of increasing our understanding of this plentiful food and revealed it to be packed with important nutrition. The benefits that can be attained from eating beans are as varied as all of the nutrients they contain, but what is important is that many of these benefits help to protect people from some of the most feared illnesses of our times. i eat beans regularly, both sprouted and cooked. I only buy organic beans in bulk and the ones that I fine the most nutritional is adzuki, mung and garbanzo.

WHOLE GRAINS PROVIDE UNIQUE ANTIOXIDANTS

Whole grains offer vitamins and minerals, plus high levels of antioxidants and other healthy plant-based nutrients. Whole grains contain protective antioxidants in amounts near or exceeding those in fruits and vegetables. They also provide some unique antioxidants not found in other foods. Studies have shown that eating more whole grains may help reduce the risk of heart disease, cancer and diabetes. New studies show that whole grains may lower triglycerides, improve insulin control, help in weight management, and slow the build-up of arterial plaque. Optimal whole grains are hulled barley, wheat berries, buckwheat, rye, spelt, quinoa, black rice and brown rice. Quinoa and buckwheat are actually fruit seeds but look like grains so I call them grains. They are powerfully nutritional loaded with protein and calcium among lots of fiber and many other nutrients.

The Affordable “Disease Care” Law

Tony's picture 2 from Peggy THE AFFORDABLE “DISEASE CARE” LAW

With all the fuss going on over “Obamacare,” I’ve just got to get up on my soapbox for this blog post.

While listening to some of the political talking points and patients’ viewpoints on the current health care crisis a few days ago on television, one woman with MS decried the fact that her drugs alone cost her $4400 a month, and I thought: “Oh My God! This is what we’re getting ourselves into with this so-called Affordable Health Care program!” — a misnomer if there ever was one.  It would be more accurate to call it “Affordable Disease Care,” because that’s what it provides: care for those who have diseases, for whatever the reasons and causes, mostly related to unhealthy lifestyles, poverty, and environmental pollution.

Just for a perspective on how this pans out where the rubber meets the road: it will take 44 of us paying our minimum $115 monthly Affordable Health Care premiums to pay for this woman’s drugs — drugs that do not even “cure” her MS and restore her health, but that merely treat the symptoms of her disease so that she can go on living a lifestyle that has resulted — and continues to result — in MS.  Now, you tell me what’s wrong with this picture.

But, then, that’s why so-called “health insurance” was invented in the first place — by a group of hospitals during the depression, by the way:

It was during the Depression that hospitals banded together to offer prepaid coverage to citizens. Prepaid hospital coverage was a way for hospitals to avoid the financial failure that befell the banking industry. The approach worked so well that doctors followed suit a few years later and Blue Cross Blue Shield organizations were born. Little did anyone know that the seeds for runaway costs eighty years later had been planted. (THE HISTORY OF HEALTH CARE COSTS AND HEALTH INSURANCE — A Wisconsin Primer by LINDA GORMAN, PH.D.)

Read the article. It’s very enlightening. The primary motive was to make sure hospitals and doctors got paid for their services to the sick — not to the healthy.  So it really should be called “sick care insurance.”  And they won’t let any of us real health care professionals in on their racket. Well, after fighting for inclusion and insurance equality, licensed chiropractors are allowed to dip into the money pool, but only to treat backaches and neck injuries along with disorders related to misaligned spinal vertebrae (known as a “subluxation complex”) — in other words, muscular-skeletal disorders. Diseases can only be treated by an MD and then only with drugs and surgery. Natural medicines, like herbs and therapeutic supplements, are not allowed. An MD’s scope of practice is limited to disease care. Therefore, natural medicines that contribute to health are not covered by any insurance policies that I’m aware of, certainly not by Medicare. Medicare will not pay for chiropractic maintenance care either. The chiropractor, in order to get a relatively puny amount of compensation from Medicare, has to say that the monthly spinal adjustment some of us like to have just to maintain our health is for a “new injury,” even though it isn’t.  You see, one has to be a little bit dishonest in order to play the game.

Oh, yes, the system can be manipulated and is on a daily basis.  It’s a racket on both sides of the playing field.  We even call it the “health care arena.” It’s all a big and expensive game for which the spectators pay premium dollars every month — plus a co-payment — in order to be allowed into the arena.  Of course, they have to have a treatable disease in order to actually get out on the field and get passed around like a football while the doctor-players dip their hands into the insurance pool each time they pass or run the ball.

IT’S A COLLUSION AND UNHOLY ALLIANCE

Do you actually believe that medical science will ever find a “cure” for all the diseases they’ve invented in order to have a legitimate reason to play in the healthcare “field” — another game term — and collect a fee from the spectators’ pool of insurance monies — not to mention running the risk of cutting off the billions of research dollars it gets in government grants to find a cure for cancer and alzheimer’s ?  Not on your life.

In case you have forgotten, the “government” is US, you and me, whether we’re paying an insurance premium or not. Our tax dollars go towards keeping this game in play — along with all the dollars collected in countless marches against breast cancer, diabetes and every other disease we can think of that lets us believe we are doing something by paying to walk in order to end disease on the planet.

WAKE UP PEOPLE! IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN!

For one thing, it would collapse the nation’s economy. Yes, I’m being deliberately facetious and critical. But,then, critical thinking is what we all need to exercise these days if we are to affect real changes in health care.  First, let’s call it what it is: disease care. Then let’s start demanding that insurance companies start including honest and real health care in their coverage.  I’ve heard that the state of Washington has been requiring insurance companies to pay for alternative health care for several years now. I don’t know how their doing with their law or even if it is still being enforced. Any of my readers know?

Now, let me get real here.  After all, we live in a less-than-perfect world. Disease is a fact of life as life is now lived by humans on the planet, and I am truly thankful we have developed coping methods and technology to help us traverse the toxic and dangerous terrain we have created on the surface of our planetary home among the stars. We simply could not make it without the help of our wonderful and dedicated ER doctors and nurses who get us through traumatic crises we would otherwise not likely survive. Every time I think of my by-pass operation of 2003 I thank God for the blessed surgeon who held my heart in his hands and grafted new veins and arteries into it so that I could live to see another day, another year, another decade now. God bless him and his team.

I tell my patients to be thankful for their doctors and the drugs they are taking to help them through their health crisis while they embark on a new path to health and wellness with alternative health care and lifestyle changes.  But they know and we all know that taking drugs is not the way to go in our health care. I certainly hope the young lady with MS finds her way to an alternative health care practitioner so that she can let go of her expensive drugs and toxic lifestyle.

HEALTHY ALTERNATIVES ARE ABUNDANTLY AVAILABLE

We’ve got to find another way, and we have in fact made huge inroads into healthier lifestyles and natural healing technologies. Real health care is abundantly available today.  It’s just not covered by medical insurance, and I’m sure it won’t be covered by the Affordable Health Care Law. For now, we have to pay for it out of our own pockets. But, after all, isn’t my health my responsibility? It’s certainly not yours, nor the government’s, nor the insurance industry’s for that matter. Nor is it my doctors’ responsibility. It’s mine and mine alone. If we each took care of our own health, there would be no need for disease care insurance.

A RADICAL SHIFT IN CONSCIOUSNESS IS UNDERWAY

What I am really talking about here is the need for a radical shift in the way we think about and go about the care of our health, of our precious and faithful bodies. It’s a change in consciousness that is required so that, as we each one awake and contribute into the mass consciousness our own enlightenment and perspective, we help blaze new paths to freedom from disease.

There is an awakening taking place in human consciousness and it will continue to expand and fill the collective human mind and heart with light and love for truth so that those in positions to offer collective leadership and assume responsibility for collective programs that facilitate whole-health care and healthy lifestyles will continue to have realizations that open up new and affordable ways of doing things on the planet. It’s already happening, as my wife and I were acknowledging at the dinner table just yesterday. It’s just happening “under the radar” of today’s media. It’s all over social media and the web. The new paradigm is now well in place.

THERE’S NO MIND-MADE SOLUTION TO THE MIND-MADE PROBLEM

Is there a solution to the problem we’re facing with our current health care delivery system? I don’t see one. Every new solution seems to produce only more problems in this mind-made world. The ultimate solution is individual assumption of personal responsibility. Until that happens, we can, at best, create stepping stones and bridges to the other side, away from sick care and toward true health care. All it takes is a little interest and education.

I would make one suggestion, and that would be to put in place a requirement in our Affordable Health Care Law that, in order to engage the system, a person would have to show that he or she has first engaged a healthy lifestyle and is doing something to educate him/or herself about alternative health care and sound nutrition. Even then, it would only work in an honest world where people are awake to the way the natural world works in according to natural laws.

“NOTHING’S WRONG. EVERYTHING MATTERS.”

A friend penned those words in a poem. Disease is the body’s natural adaptation to the insults and injury brought on by an unnatural lifestyle. There’s nothing wrong with it. It keeps our species from extinction by helping us adapt to an increasingly toxic and anti-life environment. It is we with our toxic lifestyle who are out of harmony with Natural Law, and we reap the consequences and pay with our good health and very lives to maintain that disharmony. At the rate we are going, we may not be able to adapt fast enough and our species may yet go extinct unless we make radical changes soon.

Some people say alternative health care is expensive. No it isn’t. Sick care is what’s expensive, increasingly so. That’s why that hand-full of hospitals and doctors invented sick insurance back along the way. Their’s was a vision of things big and far. Real health care is affordable and far less costly than drugs and surgery. It’s safer, too. One simply has to get beyond the fear barrier and let go of one’s false sense of security and dependence on drugs. All insurance salesmen know that fear is the driving force that closes the sale in the absence of wisdom and informed decision making. That’s why I have never in my working years bought health insurance, nor professional liability insurance for that matter. I simply would not buy into a fear-based system. The only two so-called “malpractice” law suits ever filed against me in my early years of practice were suddenly dropped when the assailants found out I didn’t have liability insurance. And the only health care insurance I’ve ever owned and used is Chiropractic and wholistic health care. My heart by-pass surgery was a gift from God. Thank you, God, and Poudre Valley Hospital in Fort Collins, Colorado. For that matter, all doctors are gifts from God.

Now, of course, I have Medicare to cover any catastrophic health crises I may encounter in my ageing body. It was a blessing to have when I had a worn out knee replaced a few years ago. I take no medications. Nada. Instead, I take a handful of Mother Nature’s medicines of wholefood supplements every day prescribed by a colleague in Houston whom I visit regularly for my health care. I also exercise moderately and eat sensibly. Don’t need much food to maintain my level of activity anyway. “An apple a day keeps the doctor away.” Not too many of my clients even do that. I also sleep eight hours at night and do things I enjoy — like writing these blogs, reading a good novel, singing with the Masterworks Chorale, cooking, gardening and traveling with my wife and traveling partner. Above all, I find it essential to maintain a spiritual practice to nurture my Soul’s inner life, such as meditation and attunement. After all, physical substance is shaped, nourished and maintained by spiritual substance. “As above, so below. As within, so without.” A conscious working connection with Source within is essential to the health of the whole person.

ABUSE IS INEVITABLE

Abuse is inevitable in systems where billions of dollars are pouring in from the masses. Even Medicare is abused by doctors who know darn good and well that an old person is not going to benefit that much by a hip replacement. My own ageing mother was a case in point. She had hip replacement in her 80’s at the expense of the taxpayers but was too weak to go through rehab and never really walked well again after the surgery, which was, at best, but an expensive aspirin. Between a pace maker and joint replacement, Medicare paid out over thirty-thousand dollars to her doctors and the hospital before she finally used up all her physical substance just surviving to the over-ripe old age of 90. Did her doctors take advantage of Medicare? It appeared so to me. She could have easily been allowed to end her earthly journey honorably at 80 and avoid her last decade of medical disease management. It seems we do things nowadays just because we can and because it’s covered by insurance. What ever happened to allowing the natural process of dying as an honorable way of leaving this world? Does medicine have the right to interfere with that process? Does it have the right to a monopoly on health care, and now to a government subsidized protection plan for that monopoly? Because that’s exactly what the Affordable Health Care Law is. This law says that Americans must have sick care insurance or pay a penalty. Given the current dietary habits and lifestyles of most Americans, it’s really not a bad idea.

The insurance industry itself will eventually collapse, as all dishonest and abused systems must. I think it’s a telling sign that unless the young and healthy sign up for it, Obamacare will not be adequately funded by the people. Many young Americans are apparently opting for the penalty in lieu of the monthly premium. Makes good sense to me. We may yet be forced to return to embracing an honorable death as an alternative to a life of disease management. It is, as one health author put it some years back, “cheaper to die.” Of course, the best alternative by far is health and wellness care.

Well, that’s my contribution to the current conversation on health care. Just one doctor’s viewpoint. You’re welcome to share yours. Until my next post, here’s to your health and healing!

Violence and Brain Starvation

VIOLENT BEHAVIOR MAY WELL BE THE RESULT OF BRAIN STARVATION

Tony's picture 2 from PeggyThis is not “news.” I’ve been saying it for decades, as have countless nutritional researchers and clinicians the world over. Dr. Royal Lee, called the “Einstein of Nutrition” and the “Father of Holistic Nutrition,” proved it out a century ago. Oh, medical science is so slow in arriving at the truth; so full between its ears of its own mind-made intelligence and arrogance that it hasn’t been able to hear the truth. Read the article and learn the facts about the truth of the matter — that is if you don’t already know them. (My apologies to my already awake, aware and informed readers.)

Dr. Weston Price

Dr. Weston Price

Dr. Weston Price, like Dr. Royal Lee, was a dental physician who considered teeth but a reflection of total body health, being a part of the body itself. Dr. Lee’s approach was to feed the body nutrient rich foods and in that you heal the teeth. In his own words:

Dr. Royal Lee

Dr. Royal Lee

One of the greatest tragedies of human civilization is the precedence of chemical therapy over nutrition. It’s the substitution of artificial therapy over natural, of poisons over food, in which we are feeding people poisons trying to correct the reactions of starvation. (click to hear his voice).

A contemporary colleague of Dr. Lee, Dr. Price spent his years researching, documenting an publishing scientific information on the impact of nutrition on health and disease. So, your brain is in good hands here. Enjoy this article from the Weston A. Price Foundation.

WASHINGTON, DC,, Aug. 30, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Deficiencies of vitamins A, D, K, B1, B3, B6, B12 and folate, and of minerals iodine, potassium, iron, magnesium, zinc, chromium and manganese can all contribute to mental instability and violent behavior, according to a report published in the Spring 2013 issue of Wise Traditions, the journal of the Weston A. Price Foundation.

The article, Violent Behavior: A Solution in Plain Sight by Sylvia Onusic, PhD, CNS, LDN, seeks reasons for the increase in violent behavior in America, especially among teenagers.

“We can blame violence on the media and on the breakdown of the home,” says Onusic, “but the fact is that a large number of Americans, living mostly on devitalized processed food, are suffering from malnutrition.  In many cases, this means their brains are starving.”

In fact, doctors are seeing a return of nutritional deficiency diseases such as scurvy and pellagra, which were declared eradicated long ago by public health officials.  Many of these conditions cause brain injuries as well.

Symptoms of pellagra, for example, include anxiety, hyperactivity, depression, fatigue, headache, insomnia and hallucinations. Pellagra is a disease caused by deficiency of vitamin B3.  Zinc deficiency is linked with angry, aggressive, and hostile behaviors that result in violence.  The best dietary sources of zinc are red meat and shellfish.

Leaky gut and gluten sensitivities may exacerbate nutrient deficiencies.  Gluten intolerance is strongly linked with schizophrenia.

Things have gotten even worse since Lee’s and Price’s day with all the chemicals we now have and are adding to our foods, such as MSG and Aspartame, to enhance flavor and attack obesity. Little wonder our guts are eroding and leaking undigested proteins into our blood streams, the underlying cause of food sensitivities and allergies. Read on.

“Making things worse are excitotoxins so prevalent in the food supply, such as MSG and Aspartame,” says Onusic.  “People who live on processed food and who drink diet sodas are exposed to these mind-altering chemicals at very high levels.” In an effort to curb child obesity, the dairy industry recently petitioned FDA to include aspartame and other artificial sweeteners in dairy beverages featured in school lunches, without appropriate labeling. Recent research has established the fact that aspartame actually leads to weight gain because of its effect on insulin.

Other ingredients in the food supply linked to violent behavior include sugar, artificial colors and flavorings, caffeine, alcohol and soy foods. The toxic environmental burden includes mercury, arsenic, lead, fire retardants, pesticides, heavy metals and Teflon.  Adding psychiatric drugs to this mix puts everyone at risk.

Whole foods is the only answer, and you won’t get what your body and brain need from synthetic, isolated vitamins in a “one-a-day” Centrum tablet, or gummy bears. Only from food-based nutritional therapy using whole-food supplements.

“The only solution to the mounting levels of violence is a return to real, nutrient-dense food,” says Sally Fallon Morell, president of the Weston A. Price Foundation. “We must create a culture in which eating processed food is seen as uncool, and in which home cooking is embraced as a life-enhancing skill.”

The Weston A. Price Foundation has pointed out the poor nutritional quality of school lunches and the flaws in the USDA dietary guidelines, which schools receiving federal funding are required to follow.  At a press conference in January, 2010, the Foundation proposed guidelines that include eggs, organ meats and healthy animal fats.  “Our brains need cholesterol to function properly,” said Fallon Morell, “and our children need cholesterol-rich food for optimal mental and emotional development.” Studies have shown that depressed individuals, offenders who show the most violent behavior, and the most violent suicides have low cholesterol levels.

That’s not surprising, as the brain is one big mass of cholesterol, the stuff cardiologists of today are trying to reduce in Americans with their Statin drugs. I say “Americans” because it’s only in America, where drug companies make Statin drugs, that cholesterol has become a “marker” in diagnosing coronary heart distease — and it became a marker just about the same time Statin drugs appeared on the market. Not only does medicine create drugs for diseases; it also invents diseases for its drugs! Wake up Americans!

If you want the premier hallmark wholefood supplement Dr. Royal Lee formulated and made available to the world called “CATALYN,” drop me an email and I’ll mail you a large bottle (360T for $45), postage included. That’s a 60-day supply if you’re deficient and a 120 days supply if you only need maintenance and insurance against malnutrition.

War — An Immune Response in the Body of Humanity

Tony's picture 2 from Peggy

Here’s a perspective I’ve been entertaining since the Twin Towers were destroyed, along with the lives of several thousand human beings, cells all in the larger body of Humanity. It came to me as I was viewing the tragic event on TV that fateful morning and feeling the wave of fear, disbelief and anger sweeping across the viewing public, and when President Bush declared war on terrorism. It’s come up again as I watch current events in Syria and our president’s leadership in the global community of Humanity and feel the wave of emotional reaction sweeping the nation, some of it being articulated on Face Book, with President Obama being judged as a “warmonger.” Is he?

War is a nasty business, but so is cancer and the battle that goes on in our bodies to deal forthrightly and ruthlessly with free radicals.  There have always been “free radicals” in the world scene, and they are dealt with forthrightly.

There may be a larger picture to consider when judging President Obama’s decision to strike a blow to Syrian President Assad’s war machinery. This action, as with other aggressive actions taken by nations to eliminate terrorists and brutal dictators, can be viewed as an immune response in the body of Humanity. And, yes, the body of Humanity, like our own bodies, has an immune system, and it is just as aggressive as our body’s immune system when it comes to tagging toxins and eliminating them — inevitably at the expense of innocent and healthy cells, thousands giving their lives in the aggressive action.

Do we decry the loss of the thousands of body cells that die every minute, every hour, every day?  Do we judge our body’s spirit and innate intelligence as a “warmonger” when it attacks pathogens, free radicals and cancer cells?  It is spirit, after all, that governs our immune system. We certainly do no govern it with our conscious minds.  Why is it not seen as spirit that governs the immune system of the larger body of Humanity, which is, after all, the Body of God on Earth?  Just think about it. Stand back from the political drama paraded before our eyes on television — and from your own first flush of judgmental feelings — and take another look at it.  That’s all.

America is literally a “Land of Love.” That’s what our nation’s name means. Do we not trust God’s hand in our nation’s presidential leadership?  Do we think we know what moves in the hearts and spirits of great leaders in their decisions to take action on a global scale against those who would destroy and threaten the fabric of God’s Body for political gain and power? Or out of sheer insanity, as was Adolph Hitler’s crime against Humanity executed?  I think we do not know what’s really moving behind President Obama of the Spirit of God and guiding his hand of leadership.

There’s a larger picture to consider. Let me not be so presumptuous as to think that I know what’s really afoot on planet Earth in these most unpleasant and tragic events. One thing I do know: “The truth is true and all is well. Unconquerable Life prevails.”  And it isn’t always pretty.

CELEBRATING 50 YEARS OF SERVICE

Today I celebrate my Golden Anniversary as a Doctor of Chiropractic and holistic healthcare practitioner. I received my Doctor of Chiropractic degree from Bebout College of Chiropractic in Indianapolis, Indiana, on August 15, 1963.

FROM WOULD-BE PRIEST TO HEALTER

Seminary Days 1960

Seminary Days 1960

It seems only a few years ago that I dropped out of Catholic Seminary in New Orleans – and, shortly thereafter, left home and family in Lake Charles, Louisiana with $25 in my pocket and a car note – to attend Chiropractic college in the dead of winter. It was snowing in Indianapolis when I drove into that metropolis. I don’t remember where I slept that night — probably in my 1958 Mercury Monterey two-tone, two-door hardtop. I reported to school the next morning, signed an agreement to pay my college tuition of $2500 over the course of eighteen months, moved in with a few other students in a large house on Pennsylvania Avenue near the school on Meridian Street, and found a job through another student’s mother as a machinist making rocker arms for diesel engines and hospital bed pulleys, among other automotive and machine parts.  I was on my way to becoming a chiropractor, a profession my dad, next to his Catholic faith, thought the world of — which made it easier for me to leave the seminary and let go of the highly cherished and prized idea of becoming a priest.  I was called to be a healer.

THINGS WERE DIFFERENT THEN

Back then chiropractic schooling was transitioning from a three-year to a four-year course. I believe I got in on the last of the three-year courses offered anywhere in the USA and Canada. We were taught by a staff of doctors from the “old school” where Palmer full-spine adjusting was taught as the main technique for correcting “subluxations” in the spine and releasing the innate healing power of the body. (A subluxation is a partial dislocation of a spinal vetebra as opposed to a luxation, a full dislocation — or, as we more commonly call it, a “misaligned vertebra.”)

CHIROPRACTIC’S TUMULTUS HISTORY

Dr. Earl R Bebout

Dr. Earl R Bebout

Dr. Earl R. Bebout was one of several old-timers who broke away from the “Fountainhead,” established by Chiropractic’s founder and developer, Drs. Daniel David Palmer and his son Bartlett Joshua Palmer respectively, in Davenport, Iowa, to start his own school.  He was a devout  believer in the natural ways of living, good nutrition and yearly fasting, as was my field doctor in New Orleans, Dr. Frederick Doughty Beck, who told me about Bebout College. That was back in the 1930’s. “BJ” — as he was known to the early profession and is still known to this day — had narrowed the spinal adjustment down to one single vertebra, the Atlas, believing and teaching that all subluxations in the spine could be corrected simply by adjusting and realigning the first vertebra at the top of the spinal column called the “Atlas” — named by reason of its role of holding up the head and connecting it with the rest of the body, after the fabled Atlas who held up the world on his shoulders. He called it the “Hole-in-one” (HIO) technique, using a golfing term.

This departure from full-spine adjusting created a riff in the profession that resulted in the departure of several of BJ’s close colleagues from the Fountainhead.  Dr. Earl Bebout was a devout believer in the Palmer Full Spine Technique.  I was fortunate to get in on the tail end of this tradition and to be taught by this master of full-spine analysis and adjusting.  And he was a master in many ways, believing and teaching the old Palmer philosophy of chiropractic based on a new idea whose time had come —  what BJ Palmer called the “Big Idea” — that life flows from “Above, Down, Inside and Out” through human beings from Universal Intelligence via Innate Intelligence within; that “dis-ease” in the human body was caused by an interruption to that flow by some interference — be it physical, mental, chemical or spiritual — the “cure” of which could and would be achieved simply  by removing such interference.  The body would then heal itself from within.  Innate Intelligence, God within — not educated intelligence with knowledge and remedies from without — was and is the one and the only Source of healing of mankind’s diseases, be they physical, mental, emotional, social or spiritual.  Remove the interference to the flow of life and Innate Intelligence and all dis-ease will vanish from the face of the earth like darkness at the break of day. His was a “vision of things far.” He set out to train chiropractors the world over so that every human being could receive an adjustment and be cured of all manner of disease.

THE HEART AND SOUL OF CHIROPRACTIC — ITS PHILOSOPHY

I bought into DD Palmer’s philosophy wholeheartedly, later on wrote and published a booklet about it entitled Rediscovering the Soul of Chiropractic. DD’s Chiropractic was “Founded On TONE,” as the first words on the title page of his first book The Chiropractor 1914 declares. As I tell the story in my booklet, “In the pages that follow he proclaims, almost charismatically,  that life is tone in human beings and that tone is health. In his second book, Daniel confides how initially he leaned toward the theory that nerves conveyed the vibrational “Tone” of life, and that spinal aberrations stretched and otherwise stressed the nerve fibers, thereby distorting the frequency of that vibrational tone.”  He may well be considered, then, the Father of Vibrational Medicine.  Here’s a excerpt form his first book:

DD_Palmer1-father-pof-chiropractics

An impulse travels over a nerve by waves known as vibration, similar to a pulse-wave, only more rapid . . . .  Nerves, like material substance, are composed of particles, atoms or molecules, which vibrate, oscillate. When nerves are in a normal condition, known as tone — normal tension, normal elasticity and normal renitency [tonicity] — impulses are transmitted by vibration in a normal manner with the usual force . . . .  Motor and sensory impulses are transmitted over the nervous system by molecular vibration.

DD saw his mission in life as a spiritual healer. He actually practiced “magnetic healing” through the laying of his “healing hands” upon the body to increase life flow in its ailing parts.  He wrote:

Man is a dual entity, composed of intelligence and matter, spirit and material, the immortal and mortal, the everlasting and the transient. The manifestation of such an existence is intelligent action. . . .  The universe is composed of spirit and matter. All living material is animated by spirit.

DD wanted to make his new-found healing art a religion, both to preserve its founding spiritual, or vibrational, principles as well as to save it from inevitable confrontation with the medical powers of his day. His son had larger plans for it, as well as the confrontational spirit to face the medical powers that were. BJ took up his father’s torch and blazed a spirited path into the healing field with a passion no one of his day would match. He wrote of his vision with words that burned in the hearts and minds of the early profession . . . and in the hearts of many chiropractors to this day, myself included.  It is what compelled me in my pursuit of a healing ministry.

BJ Palmer, Developer of Chiropractic

Dr. BJ Palmer, Developer of Chiropractic

We chiropractors work with the subtle substance of the soul to release the imprisoned impulse, the tiny rivulet of force that emanates from the mind and flows over the nerves to the cells, and stirs them into life.  We deal with the magic power that transforms common food into living, loving, thinking clay; that robes the earth with beauty, and hues and scents the flowers with the glory of the air.

This force runs the entire Universe, as BJ poetically acknowledged when he penned these timeless words:

With tireless energy it blows the bubble of each individual life and then silently, relentlessly dissolves the form and absorbs the spirit into itself again. And yet you ask, “Can Chiropractic cure appendicitis or the flu?” Have you more faith in a knife or a spoonful of medicine than in the Innate Power that animates the internal living world?

DAWN OF A NEW DAY AND BIRTH OF ALTERNATIVE MEDICINE

Chiropractic’s entry into the world through the Palmer’s at the close of the 19th Century — 1895, when it was discovered — and at the dawn of the 20th Century — 1905, when the Palmer’s opened their first school  — was the break of a new day, the dawning of a New Age of “Alternative” health care.  Orthodox medicine was just getting a foothold in the door of “ownership” of the health care “industry” and held, even in those early years, a monopoly in the health care arena. Medical societies such as the American Medical Association and local organized medical groups fought hard to force all other disciplines to bend a knee to medicine’s monopoly and join its ranks as MD’s under their self-authored and legislated “Medical Practice Act” or be arrested and thrown in jail, as BJ Palmer himself and many early chiropractors were in those days.

But the Palmer’s fought the good fight and Chiropractic became the first independent drug-less healing profession in America.  Osteopathy caved in to the political pressure and gave up its independence. It was from Dr. H.T. Still, the founder of Osteopathy, that DD Palmer learned much of his technique for adjusting the spine. I was thrilled to be in on this outworking, a part of history itself.

A DEADLY POLITICAL CLIMATE

I relate all this history in order to provide a sense of the political climate at the time I graduated from Chiropractic college and began my career as an alternative, holistic healthcare practitioner. It was deadly. Chiropractors were still being arrested and sent to jail in the 1960’s when I started up my first practice in Crowley, Louisiana. Some thirty of my colleagues were sent to jail for “practicing medicine without a license.” You see, an antiquated law of 1914, called the “Medical Practice Act,” was pulled off the shelf and dusted off to be used against chiropractors, “quacks,” as we were called. The law included giving a glass of water to a fainting person and charging a fee for the service.  The fee part was the clincher. Chiropractic was threatening their financial empire. Medicine was, and still is, bent on eradicating Chiropractic from the face of the earth. I was fortunate somehow to be passed over, but I wasn’t entirely overlooked.

RUN OUT OF TOWN AS SECOND-RATE CITIZENS

We had bought a three-story antebellum house in Crowley that had been used solely as a medical clinic for thirty years prior to the old doctor’s death.  My first wife and I lived with her two young daughters in part of the house while the front of the mansion we refurbished and made into a chiropractic office.  It was a convenient arrangement and a lovely, solid old house with a modest monthly note of around $130 against a $13,000 mortgage.  I was charging back in those days a modest $3 for an office visit, which shortly increased to $5. We were seeing thirty to forty patients a day eventually, so we were surviving amid a relatively stable economy.

My wife worked with me in the office and the girls were attending St. Michael’s Catholic school.  We attended Sunday Mass at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, that is up until about the time the pastor started preaching against Chiropractic from the pulpit, telling his flock that we were quacks and should be shunned. When asked one Sunday morning by a shocked parishioner how it was that I was able to be a Catholic and a chiropractor, I began to get the message loud and clear that medicine had control of more than just the health care system and that we were looked down upon a second-rate citizens. That didn’t seem to affect the increasing flow of patients through our clinic doors, however. The people and the results we were getting proved the truth of what we were about and strengthened our resolve.

As fate would have it, a medical doctor on the City Council brought a suit against me for having a business in a residential zone — mind you, in a building that had been a medical clinic for 30 years.  Our real estate agent hadn’t apprised us of the change in the zoning for that property and we couldn’t be grandfathered in.  Well, I fought the suit for a year with a well-known lawyer and lost out to the City of Crowley and Dr. McNeely, the alderman on the city council who had brought the charge against me.  Not being financially able to establish an office elsewhere in town, we folded up and moved to the Baton Rouge area to work for a busy chiropractor in Baker. The mortgage institution in Crowley took our house back with no discredit to our name. I think they were all in cahoots with one another to run me out of town.

LIFE GUIDED ME ALL THE WAY

Bill BahanI said “as fate would have it” because it was through this doctor I worked for in Baker, along with other colleagues who were “listening to a different drummer,” that I met Dr. Bill Bahan from Derry, New Hampshire, who showed us how to put our lives on a “giving basis” and give Chiropractic to the people using the “GPC” (God-Patient-Chiropractor) fee system — or rather “no fee” system.  This meeting turned my life and the lives of my family around and upside down — or rather right-side up. The rest is history. All this took place in my life’s journey 50 years ago. Through it all, I felt the hand of God moving me along my chosen path.

Early 1970's

Early 1970’s

There is so much to be thankful for, and so many friends to whom I owe a debt of gratitude and more. So many people played a part in my beginnings as a chiropractor and throughout my career and spiritual journey.  I am profoundly thankful to God for each and every one of them, and I celebrate you as well on this Golden Anniversary day.  God bless you each one, those who are yet incarnate and those who have moved on from this earthly plane.  I am particularly thankful for all who have come to me in their health needs over the years — in Crowley, where we started out, and in Baton Rouge, New Orleans, Belle Chasse, DeRidder, and finally back here in Lake Charles where I returned in 1988 to the place where it all began five decades, half a century, ago. And I’m still counting the days as I continue serving the sick through my wonderful profession of Chiropractic.  Much more could be shared, but I am well over the 2000 words maximum I try to limit my blog posts to.  So, until my next post,

Here’s to your health and healing.

Alzheimer’s: Type 3 Diabetes?

Tony's picture 2 from PeggyYou may be watching your waistline, or perhaps thinking about your blood sugar level, while eating that piece of cake or pie. But it’s your brain you might best be thinking about.

Here’s a very informative article by Chris D. Meletis, N.D. I’ve excerpted from the May 2013 issue of Whole Health Insider:

Alzheimer’s: Type 3 Diabetes?

. . . Researchers are establishing a strong link between blood sugar and brain health to the point where they’re calling Alzheimer’s disease “type 3 diabetes.” There’s also a link between diabetes and other forms of memory problems, including vascular dementia and mild cognitive impairment.

Studies consistently show a two to 3.4-fold increased risk of vascular dementia and a 1.8 to two-fold increased risk of Alzheimer’s disease in older people with diabetes.  Many studies also show that you’re 1.5 times more likely to develop mild cognitive impairment — a condition known as predementia – if you have diabetes.

Diabetes is thought to account for six to eight percent of all cases of dementia in older people. Additionally, people who have diabetes are 50 to 75 percent more likely to develop Alzheimer’s disease, and people with Alzheimer’s disease have a higher than normal tendency to develop type 2 diabetes or impaired fasting glucose.

Scientists looked at 15 studies that investigated the link between type 2 diabetes and Alzheimer’s. Fourteen of those studies found that the two conditions were related, and in nine of those studies, the link between the two conditions was statistically significant. Smoking and hypertension — when they existed along with diabetes — increased the risk of Alzheimer’s even more.

As fascinating as these statistics are, what’s really eye-opening is the many reasons why impaired blood sugar is so damaging to your brain.

This Is Your Brain on Sugar

When researchers first began to suspect there was a link between diabetes and Alzheimer’s, they wanted to know why this connection existed. Their search led them to two peptides — chains of amino acids that form proteins.

One type of peptide, known as amyloid beta, is found in Alzheimer plaques in neurons of the brain — and in the pancreas of diabetic patients. The other peptide, amylin, is found in both the pancreas and the brains.

In one study, researchers found that same hallmark of Alzheimer’s disease — amyloid beta — in both the brains and the retinas (which is considered an extension of the brain) of diabetic patients. Specifically, the researchers looked at brain-cell-damaging toxins — known as oligomer– produced by amyloid beta. Oligomers are responsible for causing Alzheimer’s-related memory loss.

Insulin plays an important role in the formation of memories. And when oligomers attach to neurons, they knock out the insulin receptors from the neuron’s surfaces, which causes insulin resistance in the brain.

Normally, after eating, an increase in sugar in the bloodstream signals the pancreas to boost levels of insulin, which in turn signals cells to remove sugar from the bloodstream so that the cells can use the sugar for energy. Insulin resistance occurs when cells fail to respond to insulin’s signal to allow glucose into the cells. This causes the pancreas to secrete even more insulin. Over time, the elevated insulin levels aren’t enough to compensate for the higher blood sugars, and the result is high blood sugar or diabetes since glucose can’t get into the cells.

Diabetes causes even more oligomers to build up in the brain and retina, which makes neurons even more insulin resistant. If glucose can’t get into the cells, the brain is starved of the fuel it needs to function. Without glucose, your brain would work about as effectively as your car when it runs out of gas. The brain composes only about two percent of the entire human body mass. Yet, 50 percent of glucose use in the body occurs in the brain. The majority of the brain glucose is converted to ATP energy so that your brain cells can work properly and your memory remains in top shape.

The brain needs a balanced amount of glucose to function effectively. The problem occurs when the body is subjected to too much glucose and other forms of sugar such as sucrose and fructose. Too much of these sugars and it overwhelms your body to the extent that your body keeps producing more and more insulin, which ultimately loses its effectiveness, and results in the insulin resistance mentioned above. This is why, when mice with Alzheimer’s disease are fed excessive quantities of glucose, amyloid beta levels increase.

Tangled Taus

Tau proteins are another culprit to blame for the connection between diabetes and Alzheimer’s. When tau proteins clump together, they form neurofibrillary tangles, one of the hallmarks of Alzheimer’s disease. Researchers don’t know for sure whether these tangles actually cause Alzheimer’s, but they definitely play an important role in the development of the disease.

Hyperglycemia (high blood sugar) modifies these tau proteins in the brain in such a way that they begin clumping together, causing them to form neurofibrillary tanqles.”

The Inflammation Link

Inflammation is another link between Alzheimer’s and diabetes. Inflammation triggers the production of amyloid beta and increases the risk of the vascular disease associated with dementia.

Inflammation in the blood vascular system is caused by insulin which erodes the inner wall of the vessels. Cholesterol is sent in from the liver to coat the scratches in the vessels so they don’t leak. This results in atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries) that leads to poor circulation and coronary heart disease.

Low-grade, systemic inflammation also is linked to diabetes as well as the cognitive decline that occurs in diabetics. One study reported that higher levels of inflammation markers such as C-reactive protein were associated with lower cognitive performance.

Not the Brain You Were Born With

Diabetes results in changes to the brain’s structure — including more frequent brain lesions, and wasting away of an important area of the brain — compared to people who don’t have diabetes.

Scan_Pic0008

And it’s not only the structure of the brain that changes during diabetes. The blood-brain barrier becomes more permeable as well.  The blood-brain barrier separates circulating blood from the extracellular fluid of the central nervous system. This is because the brain is very choosy about what it allows inside of it. The blood-brain barrier keeps bacteria and other large molecules that don’t belong from entering the brain while allowing in glucose, hormones and other substances the brain needs to function.

When the blood-brain barrier isn’t working properly, it allows amyloid beta to slip through into the brain. The ability to allow amyloid beta proteins into your brain is controlled, in part, by a receptor for advanced glycation end products — better known as AGEs — which are produced in excess in diabetes and prediabetes.  AGEs form as a result of a protein or fat molecule combining with a sugar molecule.

AGEs are easiest to understand when you think of them in relation to the browning of food. When you toast a slice of bread, the browning of the bread is the result of AGE formation in the food. This same process occurs in your body during blood sugar spikes. The more diabetes or insulin resistance disrupts your blood sugar, the more AGEs that form in your body. And, therefore, the more amyloid beta that can get into your brain and damage your neurons.

Starving the Brain

Some research shows that during diabetes and insulin resistance, the brain is being starved of the insulin it needs to function. Yet, even while high levels of insulin are saturating the body during prediabetes, the brain becomes deficient in insulin because overproduction of this hormone weakens insulin receptors at the blood-brain barrier. This results in reduced amounts of insulin transported to the brain.

This spells disaster for brain function, since insulin enhances memory and learning. Insulin deficiency in the brain also is involved in cerebral vascular dysfunction, inflammation, oxidative stress and the inability of neurons in the brain to repair themselves.

Are Genetics to Blame?

Researchers have discovered a gene that may explain the link between Alzheimer’s and diabetes. They found that the gene, present in many Alzheimer’s disease cases, affects the insulin pathway.

Yet, of the two types of Alzheimer’s disease — type 1 and type 2 — only type 1, which accounts for five to 10 percent of Alzheimer’s cases, is genetic. This type of Alzheimer’s often develops at an earlier age. The rest of the cases, 90 to 95 percent, are type 2 and aren’t connected to genetics.

Interestingly, this sounds a lot like diabetes as well, doesn’t it? Of the two types of diabetes — type 1 and type 2 — type 1 accounts tor five percent of all diabetes cases, with 95 percent of diabetes falling under the type 2 classification.

30-DAY CURE OF TYPE 2 DIABETES

Type 2  “insulin resistance” diabetes can be cured in 30 days simply by abstaining completely from foods that spike insulin — starches and sugars.  These include Irish potatoes (french fries), white and brown rice, pasta, all flour products, such as white bread, biscuits and pastries, and what are now labeled “Gluten Free” products (made from rice flour).  These foods are high on the glycemic index, which mean they spike insulin.

The rationale for this cure is simple.  Since the receptor sites for insulin on the cells are all taken — or else damaged and even destroyed by insulin, leaving no sites for more insulin hormones to “park” and deliver their sugar-fuel to the cells — one needs to use up all the sugar in the loading zones of the cell receptors first before any more sugar can be delivered.  By putting a hold on more insulin production, triggered by starches and sugars, the amount of insulin hormones with their loads of sugar in the blood stream is gradually diminished, giving the cells a chance to repair and replace damaged receptor sites. This takes about 30 days.  After 30 days one can then return to a sensible and moderate consumption of complex (whole-food) starches and sugars.  But one must take care so as not to crowd the receptor sites again with more sugar-bearing insulin than the cells have receptor sites for.

It goes without saying —  but I’ll go ahead and say it — along with the 30-day fast from sugar and starch, daily exercise is essential to the burning of sugar by the cells. Just a 20 to 30 minute brisk walk will do the job.  You have to use up what sugar you already have in the cells and what’s waiting in the blood stream to be delivered before you take in more.  It just makes good sense.

Improve Your Diet, Boost Your Memory

The research linking Alzheimer’s and diabetes means that the key to having a good memory resides in your stomach. Commit to eating a healthy diet free of sugary foods and sodas. Choose whole wheat bread and pasta over white, refined products. Stick with healthy sweeteners such as xylitol and stevia that don’t raise your blood sugar levels.

Honey need not be discounted as it is a great food, especially locally gathered honey that has not been heated to a level that kills the enzymes. Maple syrup is also a good choice and is lower than honey on the glycemic index.

Chromium, cinnamon and Gymnema sylvestre are good choices for supplemental blood-sugar support. An analysis of the medical literature found that chromium reduced glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c), which is a measure of blood sugar control, as well as fasting blood glucose levels.” Gymnema sylvestre also reduced HbA1c levels in two small trials, while other studies showed cinnamon improved fasting blood glucose.

In my practice, I often call chromium “will power in a bottle.”  That’s because by balancing blood sugar, it also helps reduce the cravings for sweets that occur when your blood sugar is low.

You’ll want to consider supplementing with 1-6 grams of cinnamon, 600 mcg of  chromium and 200-800 mg of Gymnema sylvestre per day.

Put the above strategies into practice and you’ll not only reap all the rewards of having balanced blood sugar-you’ll keep your memory sharp, too.

I use Medi-Herb’s Gymnema in my practice.  It’s from Australia and it’s pure and very powerful.  One a day is usually sufficient to balance blood sugar, whether it’s high or low, and reduce your sugar-craving. You can order it from me by email — ($19/40 tablets, $53/120 tablets.)  I would also recommend CATAPLEX GTF by Standard Process Labs for your Chromium supplementation ($13/90 tabs), along with DIAPLEX ($37/150 caps) to nourish the health of your pancreas and enhance your sugar metabolism.  My email address is tpal70@gmail.com.

Pineal Attunement with Quartz Crystal Singing Bowls

F sharp quartz crystal bowl with C sharp Tibetan bowl mane in Napal

F sharp quartz crystal bowl with C sharp Tibetan bowl made in Napal

My F sharp eight-inch quartz crystal bowl arrived a few days ago and its tone is exquisite – so fine and pure.  The high frequency vibration intensifies the energy field around the pineal gland.  I can feel it throbbing in the center of my brain.  Played with my C sharp Tibetan bowl, together they create a perfect fifth harmony (do – sol). Then, when I add the deeper tone of my 16″ A sharp quartz crystal bowl, the triad harmony (F# do,  A# mi,  C# sol) is healing and heavenly.  Click this link to listen to the tones on Facebook.  See where the tones resonate in your body.  I venture to say that everyone who listens to this tone will feel it resonating in the center of their head.

(Caution: the tones may cause a pressure in your head, so turn down your computer’s volume before playing the clip.  The pressure may simply be an indication that your pineal gland is either closed or crystalized with fluoride. If so, it may well be possible to break up the crystals with this frequency.)

There’s something very magical about quartz crystal bowls.  It is said that their tones resonate the human vocal chords.  I believe it, because my voice wants to sing with them every time I play them.

In her wonderful book Travelling the Sacred Sound Current, sacred chant master Deborah Van Dyke writes about different levels of listening and of hearing. (You can visit her Facebook page at the above link.)

A more advanced state of hearing occurs when we listen not only with our ears, but with our whole being. As a woman once describing her experience with crystal bowls aptly put it: ‘The sound is amazing, it turns my whole body into an Ear!’

I think that everyone should have a quartz crystal bowl to play and sing with.  We had thirteen bowls to play with during our Attunement with Sacred Sound workshop intensives at Sunrise Ranch in Loveland, Colorado — thanks to a very generous lady who loaned us her bowls. The main theme of the workshop is the use of sound as a carrier wave for the healing current of spirit. I demonstrate in the workshops how one can sing into the bowl their “sad song” to release ill feelings about one’s illness or life circumstance. While singing one’s song, healing currents are released as well over the sound waves, drawn from within the person, even while singing one’s sad song.  Here’s an excerpt from my workshop manual, soon to be published:

TONING TO RESOLVE DISSONANT ENERGY

Sound is a natural carrier wave for all spirits.  It can be used to release – or resolve – dissonant spirits as well.  The quartz crystal bowl is an excellent tool for this kind of release and resolution.

Any bowl can be used – preferably the heart chakra F bowl. Or, one may explore and discover one’s own resonant pitch and then purchase a quartz crystal bowl tuned to one’s unique resonant pitch. Having one’s own bowl is an investment in one’s heart health.

First get in touch with the dissonant feeling inside.  Begin giving it sound, even though it’s but a grunt or a moan.  Then start playing your bowl while grunting or moaning.  Get it all out before you start clarifying your toning in harmony with the bowl.  Once you have found resonance with the bowl, play and sing for a bit having fun with your creation.

Renown oncologist, Dr. Mitchell L. Gaynor, uses the quartz crystal bowl this way with his cancer patients with remarkable success.  In his captivating and deeply inspiring book, Sounds of Healing – a must-read for practitioners of sound-healing – he writes:

I’m convinced that physical recovery cannot occur unless we acknowledge our constricted nature and boldly strike out beyond their borders to discover our true, unencumbered selves.

Much like a shaman himself, Dr. Gaynor points to the wisdom of the ancients as a model for modern medicine:

Yet today doctors generally have as little interest in the ancient model of a healing partnership as they do in the notion of using sound, either by itself or with meditation, to create a holistic recovery process that touches mind, body, and soul.  The shamans understood that music, song, and dance are inextricably linked, and all of them require varying degrees of mental and physical flexibility.  I see the interplay and balance required to make music as a reflection of the harmonious interaction of the nervous, endocrine, and immune systems in a healthy body.  Rudolph Steiner, the German educator and philosopher, compared physical illness to an untuned piano.  Imagine, then, the sense of empowerment to be gained from using sound—whether emanations from a singing bowl, your own voice, a flute, drum, or some other musical instrument—to create a tuning device that enables you to be both the healer and the healed.  Shamans have known this for centuries; we may just now be learning the lesson.

Dr. Gaynor has his patients create their own unique songs while singing into their bowls as they play them. The therapeutic effect is profound. Here’s a link to a website where you can purchase a quartz crystal bowl: Crystal Tones.

Here’s to your Sound Health. 🙂

THE RHYTHM OF LIFE

I’ve been reading Lao Russell’s inspiring and thought-provoking book GOD WILL WORK WITH YOU BUT NOT FOR YOU and I believe my perspective on life has been deeply changed.  Whereas before I had a rather limited sense of my life on Earth as a one-time journey to enjoy and make the best of for spiritual growth, I gradually began to be aware of a much larger context, taking in an infinite number of incarnations, even vaguely remembering them and feeling the current of a continuum flow of energy and eternal Presence.

Being in my seventies, my current sojourn is winding down.  I actually feel my body looking toward that “longer rest cycle” Lao speaks of that we call death.  Life’s rhythm is rest-action-rest-action. I can actually say that I truly see death as simply a rest period between incarnations.  My life suddenly has taken on meaning well beyond my career as husband, parent, physician, musician, author and blogger.  I feel ageless with a purpose of simply revealing the beauty of my Being in this world. Been here done this many time, and will return to do it again and again until I get it right.

Portrait of Lao by Walter

Portrait of Lao by Walter

Lao and her life-partner Walter got it right this last sojourn here. They shared a co-creative partnership.  My take is that they were both somewhat ascended masters who enjoyed living in the “many mansions” of their Father’s House. Neither one of them were of this world, yet they both enjoyed a high degree of success in worldly terms. They both knew what it meant to work with God in whatever came to them as opportunities to serve and co-create, notwithstanding their brief grade-level formal education. Both quit school in their youth to pursue their callings to greatness. It’s not uncommon for geniuses to find formal schooling a boring distraction from and impediment to their real education — something Mark Twain cautioned against in that famous quote: “Don’t let your schooling interfere with your education.” Lao and Russell’s education seems to have come directly from the Universe, from God. I get the distinct feeling reading their books that both had incarnated with a shared mission and purpose to get on with early in their years, as though they didn’t wish to leave anything unfinished that would require a return to these planes.

I stand in awe at their many and varied accomplishments — in art, sculpture, physics, elemental chemistry, philosophy, teaching and writing, to name the chief areas in which they excelled. I love their simple “living philosophy” which included an engaged life-style.  They didn’t sit around waiting for life to come to them.  They rather met life on the road, which often appeared only after they started walking.  You don’t ask God to do something for you.  You ask God to do everything you set out to do with you. When you ask God for anything you desire, you don’t wait for it to come to you. You prepare yourself to pursue and embrace it with a “strong arm” at the opportune moment. They walked their talk and talked their walk with words imbued with their spirit and authenticity.  What a pleasure it is to be with such authors the length of a well-written book. I’ll share a bit of their legacy of wisdom and insight.

LIFE UNFOLDS AND FOLDS AGAIN ETERNALLY

Out of a seed unfolds a tree whose life experiences are recorded and folded back into its seed to give birth to other trees so that God the Creator can live another day among His Creation.  If it is so with the  trees, how much more so is it with Human Beings who wear the crown of Creation and share the Mind of God as co-creators.

The Russell’s created a one year “Home Study Course” comprised of four-lesson units issued monthly. The lesson units were entitled “Universal Law, Natural Science and Living Philosophy.” By 1955 the course had already reached to far corners of the world, even to such remote places as New Zealand, South Africa, South America, Hawaii, Finland, Greece, Iran, England and Scotland.  Here is an excerpt from Lao’s book about the Foundation and the Home Study Course:

“The Walter Russell Foundation was formed for the purpose of giving to the world-family The Message of the Divine Iliad, by Walter Russell, which is a scientific explanation of God’s ways and processes in the construction of His universe, and the Message of a Living Philosophy, by Lao Russell, for illumining man’s Cosmic way of Life in his long journey of life from the dark to God’s Light.

“These two purposes are ONE, for one gives man the knowledge of how to live life and manifest His Creator, and the other gives him knowledge of what Life is and his
relation to his Creator.

“We fully realize that the human race is in its very early stages and can advance only as new knowledge comes into the world to make one know what life is for, and why God put man here to live it. We fully realize that our present-day world disunity is entirely due to our primacy, and the attendant ignorance of the basic essentials of knowing how to live life. We are still in the stage where our greatest values are money and transient physical possessions, instead of the enduring spiritual values of mutual service of man to man.

“This early stage of man’s unfolding is the cause of wars which men institute to acquire the physical possessions of others for themselves. That stage of greed for power over others, and the physical possessions of others, must be entirely eliminated from human consciousness before a happy race of humanity is possible. To exalt mankind above this present low physical level to the higher spiritual level, which all men will eventually reach, The Walter Russell Foundation has instituted a course of study which gives the knowledge required by man to tell him of himself, his purpose on earth, the laws which govern his own Being, and those concerning his relationship to other men and to Nature.

“Wherever it is reaching, its students are becoming transformed by the knowledge given them of a Nature which they have never before been able to obtain. Man must first know about man, himself. That is the first essential of life. A way of life through a living philosophy based upon a knowledge of the laws of Nature, which govern man, is of the greatest import.

“As students have become transformed through the new knowledge they have gained, others have become inspired to do likewise, and that is the way this course of study has spread around the world. The demand is now growing so fast in other non-English-speaking countries for this new knowledge, that we are now preparing to translate our Home Study Course and books into all other languages.

“Ill health and the misfortunes of life are the result of not knowing how to obey Natural law. When man learns how to obey Natural law he can then command his life.

“We teach the power of Mind to command one’s own body and keep its normal balance of health. This enables people to heal themselves through Cosmic knowledge. We are not consultants in health matters; nor do we practice Mind healing in any way or manner. It is interesting to know, however, how many of our students are healing themselves of various illnesses because of this basic new knowledge of Nature’s ways and processes.

“This Foundation was chartered as a non-profit educational institution in 1948 under the laws of Virginia, by Lao Russell for two purposes: 1, to see her famous husband’s works of art gathered together as a Shrine of Beauty to perpetuate for posterity and, 2, to unite mankind into one world-family upon the basis of brotherly love in human interchange, instead of brotherly conquest of man by man, which has been the basis of world human relations for thousands of years.

“The more immediate purpose of the Foundation is to save our rapidly decaying civilization from another fall into chaos by bringing the balance of unity between the World-Father and the World-Mother, in order that the management of the World-Family will have the qualities of both the Father and the Mother in its WORLD-HOME.”

What a profound and worthy undertaking and accomplishment.  I’ll share more from Lao Russell’s book in my next few posts.  She offers much wisdom and insight into health. Until then,

Here’s to your health and healing.

Binding Pleiades To Loose Orion

Rainbow Hands

Rainbow Hands

THE SWEET INFLUENCES OF PLEIADES AND THE BANDS OF ORION

In this ancient story, as recorded in the Book of Job in the Bible, one of several thought-provoking questions asked of  Job by the Lord from out of the whirlwind was:

“Canst thou bind the sweet influences of Pleiades, or loose the bands of Orion?”  (Job 38:31)

The constellations of Orion and Pleiades have star systems that together play a role in a creative process that works on the basis of a creative triangle.  Orion and Pleiades in this context form a creative triangle with our Star in the Milky Way Galaxy.  Between these three points, grid lines of cosmic forces are stretched and interconnected.   Pleiades is thought to bring the feminine emotional vibration to bear in our solar system, and therefore in all of the natural world on this planet, including mankind.  Orion brings to bear the masculine mental vibration.

The vibration of the Divine Feminine relates to truth, the mother of life.  She provides the womb and atmosphere, as well as the material substance, for the conception, gestation and nurturing of the things of spirit in preparation for their birth into the world of form.  The vibration of the Divine Masculine relates to love, the Father of life. He provides the Consciousness from which the Creative Word is spoken and then sent forth into the creative field as a seed to bring forth creation into form.   Both characterize the nature of God and Man and are essential to the unfolding of the Creative Process through which Creation is made manifest from out of the invisible heaven into the visible earth.

STEWARDING THE CREATIVE PROCESS

One of the meanings of the phrase “to bind” is “to unite or hold, as by a feeling of loyalty or love.” This shines new light on the question the Lord asked of Job, “Canst thou bind the sweet influences of the Pleiades, or loose the bands of Orion?” Rather than the common meaning of bind, which implies to hold back and suppress — an attitude which the human male has historically held toward the human feminine, both in himself and in woman — the question could be interpreted as asking:

Can you, man, commit yourself to a state of union with woman? Can you hold her heart and her response in a focused current of unconditional love void of any desire to own or possess it or her in any way? Can you embrace the feminine vibration of the Pleiades, both in yourself and in woman, contain it and allow it to build in substance; can you hold it steady while you honor her with the release of your masculine vibration of Orion—your radiant and unconditional love— into the womb of her heart to fertilize the seeds of life planted there by the Spirit of God?

The question really relates to the business of stewarding the Creative Process by which the invisible things of God are made visible, which requires creative pressure.  Can we handle that pressure as it builds, or will we relieve ourselves of it somehow, either through violent out-bursts — or by taking a passive aggressive posture, or retreating into a comfort zone of avoidance through silence or distractions of various sorts?

It also requires heart and mind working together in agreement. Oh, we as men and women have much to learn about binding the sweet influences of our feelings to thereby loose the bands around our heads that keep us from achieving our destiny and purpose as creator beings. Our minds are often bound by our feelings.  Feelings too often betray our love for truth and integrity and keep us from pursuing our dreams and being about  “our Father’s business.” We’ve call them “feminine wiles” because that’s what they are, tricks to lure us away from our purposeful goals.  It’s part of her defense and protection against male abusiveness. The man’s mind is bound by his fear of the woman’s wrath, and she knows it.  He is thus conditioned to avoid saying or doing anything that might upset her. “Hell hath no fury like the wrath of a woman scorned.” No one likes or enjoys living in this warring climate. Nothing can be accomplished of heavenly value on earth as long as this enmity prevails between man and woman.  We’re better than this, and in our heart of hearts we know it. There’s something much greater and more noble for us to be about as partners in Creation.

SETTING THE ORDINANCES OF HEAVEN IN THE EARTH

This brings to light another question asked of Job:

Knowest thou the ordinances of heaven? Canst thou set the dominion thereof in the earth?

This can be seen as pertaining to the relationship between God and Man, Man and Woman, between mind and heart, or between Man and Nature.

The “ordinances of heaven” are the invisible patterns of design for life on earth that are placed in “the heaven” of consciousness, as seeds in the soil, by the Creator.  They are to unfold through the Creative Process and manifest in the earth. The Creative Process unfolds in a very specific and exact manner.  There is first the radiation of love, which instantly and simultaneously engenders response. Response sets up attraction.  Attraction invites and compels union, the truth of love.  With Union comes unified radiation, which is abundant life.  The process unfolds naturally and eternally.

A familiar example of this process is the manifestation of a family.  Man (love, radiation) + Woman (truth, response) = romance (attraction) + sexual intercourse (union) = a child (unified radiation, life) = family.  The simplified version of this formula is: Love + Truth = Life.  Man, male and female, was put in charge of stewarding this process for the entire Earth.  United by Love, Man and Woman are the Mother of God and of Creation on Earth.

A MODERN DELUGE UNDERWAY

This is the Natural Design of Life. Whatever has happened to thwart that design has been man’s doing and has brought about Man’s undoing.  Man was created male and female to manifest God’s desire to create a universe that reflects back to Him the brilliant Light of Love, which is Life.  Men and women were created to love one another with such passion that they would naturally be drawn together as one flesh — which they are — to let life forms be born into the world for angels to incarnate and populate and steward the Earth . . . and more. Co-creation of a world of beauty and harmony is our natural and God-given role and privilege on Earth. What has happened to that design and purpose?  It’s almost entirely lost in the quagmire of competitive strife for power and control, of selfishness and greed and hoarding of property and material possessions. Our love for our created things has replaced our love for God’s Creation.

A VIBRATIONAL ARK

Much of what we now have on the planet are wars and killings , famine and poverty, prostitution and sex-trafficking, raping and destruction of our Natural World, disease and death.  Life on Earth is not much unlike the Biblical description of human affairs at the time of Noah and before the Great Deluge. I read recently that in the Syrian refugee camps women are prostituting themselves for needed income and men are “renting” out their wives for $70 a day to send money back to their families in Syria. Sex trafficking is huge business worldwide, topped only by drug trafficking.

It’s time to build an ark, only this time a wooden ark will not do to lift humankind above the flooding waters, for the waters are not liquid.  The waters are vibrational.  Only a Vibrational Ark can lift us out of the deluge of modern civilization.  “Come out of her, my people” was the admonishment of the Lord of Biblical days. We are still in Biblical days.

AN ARC OF LOVE

There is an ark on earth today, only it’s an arc, a spark between two poles: one masculine and the other feminine —  sexual orientation not withstanding. This spark is the love between Father God and Mother God for their Creation, especially for Mankind. Our sharing in their love affair brings into our hearts and minds the power and wisdom that will lift Humanity back to its original state of peace and harmony. This love-arc is everywhere today sparking communities and empowering personal and global transformation in consciousness. Mainstream media are not interested in airing it, but it’s happening and building and thousands are coming on board. An arc of love has inflamed human hearts and is lifting souls who are resonant with Love’s vibration out of the materialistic-oriented world. We are becoming buoyant with life energy and that is having its impact in human affairs and on the planet.

Let us love God with all of our hearts and all of our minds and all of our strength . . . and one another as our Self.  Let the sweet influences of Pleiades be bound back to loving God only and let the bands of Orion be loosed to set the mind of Man free to mesh and blend once more with the Mind of God so that Creation may continue along the course it was set upon in The Beginning.  This is my prayer for the world today and always.

Finding Balance in a “Sexed Universe”

Tony Pics for SA Book We’ve been considering the spiritual essences within and behind the sacred anatomy of our endocrine system.  I would like to expand this consideration to encompass the larger context of life in which these delicate glands in our bodies play dynamic roles in bringing about homeostasis.

Homeostasis in health is the state of balance between a man/woman and his/her environment.  Health is a state of balance.  Dis-ease is a state of imbalance.

I’ve been reading some of Walter Russell’s books — and blogging on them in my HealingTones.org blog. I’m presently half way through his 1947 work The Secret of Light — a very mentally stimulating book — but  also spiritually enlightening. The author truly did tap the secrets of the Universe.  He brings God the Creator right down into Creation where one can see God, not aloof from his creation but quite intimately involved in it and eternally creating it . . . through us.

BALANCE = REST

The idea that spawned this post came in something Russell said about balance.  All things in the universe, he writes, seek balance.  The implication in this statement is that all things are naturally in a state of unbalance.  Balance, Russell writes, is a state of rest.  In what he calls a “two-way electrical universe,” opposites, by nature, oppose one another while seeking a state of rest by nullifying one another.

In electricity, for example, a positive current seeks negative grounding, where it comes to rest in a state of balance. The same dynamic plays out in an electrical storm.  Clouds build up a positive charge which they discharge in a bolt of lightning toward the negative, receptive  ground.  The result is light, which is neither positive or negative.  These polarities are nullified by their union.  Light is the balanced state where opposites come to rest and lose their individual charge and identity.

Opposites can never unite unless they return to their original state of balance and rest, where they are no longer what they were. They become each other.  Hot becomes cold by condensing and cold becomes hot by expanding.  Night becomes day and day becomes night.  Life becomes death in order to be reborn as life. Heaven becomes earth and earth returns to heaven.  Water becomes vapor and vapor returns to water. The invisible becomes visible only to return to being invisible.  The only reality that doesn’t change is God.  God is eternal Balance.

Human beings seek health when they are sick.  We become sick when we get out of balance with Universal Law.  For example, by divine design we carry a positive spiritual charge in relation to our environment.  Our worlds are negative, or responsive, toward us, their creators. We lose that dynamic creator-creation relationship the moment we become negative, or responsive, toward them, in effect making our worlds, rather than God, our positive point of orientation and looking to receive our cues for directions in life from circumstances rather than from within. In other words, we reverse our polarity by turning our face of response outward.  In that state, we become reactive rather than proactive.

This sets up an unnatural dynamic between us and our worlds. We really can’t make the material world positive in its charge.  By nature it is negative toward the Positive One who made it. We can only reverse our own polarity, in effect turning our backs on God.  In so doing, we lose our radiance — and eventually our health.  Our worlds do not respond to us lacking our positive dominion and stewardship.  Life becomes a struggle of extracting sustenance from our worlds by the sweat of our brows.  (Seems I’ve read that somewhere in Genesis.) This unbalance is finally resolved in death.  Death is where our bodies finally find the rest they sought throughout their existence.  “Rest in peace,” we say — but only for a little while until the atoms that make up our bodies are resurrected back into another life form, perhaps human.

That creator-creation dynamic is restored the moment we restore our natural polarity by turning our face of response back to God and extending a radiant dominion of positive energy toward our environment. That quality of dominion is magnetic and irresistible.  It’s Love.  Atoms and molecules will come together in healthy patterns of design and balanced bodily function very quickly around such a quality of spirit in expression through us.  Our endocrine system will produce sufficient and appropriate hormones that will gladly carry those positive energies and messages in a stream of balanced chemistry to all the cells in the body.  Vitality and harmony will prevail once again — as it was when we were innocent children — in our house of being.

EXTENDING LOVE’S DOMINION

By virtue of the same dynamic, life in our day-to-day relationships and activities is a state of opposites and therefore of unbalance.  Male and female, for example, are opposite energies.  They oppose one another.  That’s their natural state of creative stress. They seek union in order to procreate, and in doing so they become one another, negate one another, lose themselves in one another.  Men no longer remain male and women no longer female.  They become Love, if only for a few minutes, creating a new life form. If only they would retain that shared identity in Love after their sexual union and extend loving dominion in their daily affairs, the world would quickly be transformed. Then, male energy could continue to be itself and female energy itself in an ongoing, natural relationship of opposites balancing one another rather than competing with one another for power and control.

Ideally and ultimately the balancing of these two energies needs to take place within the individual. It occurs easily as the mind is consumed in knowing Truth and how things work with Life,  and the heart is content in its love affair with Love and ceases looking for love elsewhere. It occurs instantly when I remember who I AM and honor my lordship over my creation.

In politics, liberals oppose conservatives. That’s by constitutional, as well as natural, design.  Standing alone, they are each in a state of unbalance. Standing together in opposition to one another, they create a dynamic state of what could and should be creative stress.  It has historical rather created a seemingly insurmountable impasse.

A state of unbalance finds balance only by returning to a state of rest.  Agreement — even agreeing to disagree — creates a state of rest.

I find it interesting that in this political battle over gun control, the conservative party wants liberation from gun-control while the liberal party wants conservation and tightening of gun-control — and the twain shall never meet. That is, unless they come to love and want the same thing, hopefully the truth, whatever that is in this situation. The people, whom they represent, are divided on that score, a division we see reflected in Congress. Until we the people come to a resolution on the basis of what the right thing to do is, the two parties will remain unbalanced in their individual views and in their polarized charge around those views, and the issue will remain unresolved. Without agreement, there can be no balance, and the painfully divisive state of unrest in our nation will persist, all stemming from a prevailing fear that the government is trying to take away our constitutional right to bear arms, a “right” that is at odds with Universal Law.

The solution to the tragedies produced by violence is not to be found and legislated by Congress.  It will come about naturally when we stop making allowances for it in our consciousness. Data shows you are four times more likely to die by a bullet — either by your hand or by that of your spouse or other family member — if you make allowance for a gun in your home as a means of self-defense. It’s the old proverb, “Live by the sword and die by the sword.”

Opposites can unite only if they return to their original state of balance and rest.  Love is our origin. Only in Love can we find our place of balance and rest. When our love is for truth, the result of our actions will be peace — and life will prevail.

A “SEXED ELECTRIC UNIVERSE”

That is how Walter Russell describes the world in which we live.  Electricity is created by divided wave action arising out of God’s Mind conveying his Idea of Creation.  One wave carries a positive charge and the other wave carries a negative charge.  One compresses while the other expands. One is masculine and the other feminine. Their passion to unite and discharge  depends upon the intensity and build up of their electrical charge. The farther away from a state of balance through union they are, the more they “sex” one another and the more irresistible is their desire for union, which can be rather violent if one is super-charged and not discharging energy in other creative ways — or is mentally or emotionally compromised.  As Russell describes it . . .

Sex is the division of a balanced equilibrium condition into two equally unbalanced conditions which negate each other periodically for the purpose of repeating the two unbalanced conditions.

Sex is the creative principle. It is the dual desire force in Mind (God) for expressing its One Idea (for Creation). Without a division of the one unconditioned Light into two seemingly conditioned lights (male-female, positive-negative, father-mother), Creation could not be.

Sex is not a thing, it is a condition of a thing.  An electrically balanced condition of anything is sexless, whether it be a man, woman, electric battery, or the atmosphere. A sexed condition is an unbalanced condition.

Using the examples of a short-circuited battery losing its charge and becoming “dead,” and that of the calm after an electrical storm that has discharged the clouds and the atmosphere, Russell makes his case for how the desire for balance is satisfied in nature, and when balance is attained at rest, motion is no longer possible.

The sexed condition of unbalance in man is exactly the same in all phenomena in Nature. An unbalanced sex condition in man demands balancing in the same way, and its violence depends upon its electrical measure of unbalance. When that desire is satisfied and balance is restored, man is as sexless as the dead storage battery and for the same reason.

He offers this as a re-conditioning:

Man is recharged into a sexed condition by his heartbeat, by the food he eats and by his inbreathing-outbreathing. These are the generators which recharge the “dead storage batteries” of all the universe into sexed conditioned “live batteries.”

Electricity — which Russell sees as the wave activity of God’s knowing and thinking Mind — is what conditions all “sexless matter into its sexed condition, by dividing a pressureless condition into two opposite pressures which desire release from their opposition.”  He then offers this astute observation and perspective:

All of the work of the universe is performed as a result of that desire in unbalanced matter to seek rest in a balanced condition.

This is a sexed electric universe in every effect of motion, whether it be in the heart of a giant sun or in the petal of a meadow violet.

Every action of motion in the universe is a result of sex desire for motion from a state of rest, or for rest from a state of motion.

One can see the function of emotions in this light as a means of discharging energy charge around issues of deep interest. Russell brings it all back to God in this final paragraph:

These two sex desires of electric action and reaction are the result of the two desires of the Father to manifest His One Light through the extended father-mother lights which interweave His idea of Creation into the multiple forms of that idea and void them periodically for the purpose of repeating them.

Finally, he sheds light on the eternal birth-death-rebirth cycle from seed to form back to seed.

The desire for two-way motion in equal action and reaction is reflected in the dual electric desire to give for regiving, and to unfold for refolding.

What a beautiful perspective.  This is why I love reading Walter Russell. He has left us a priceless legacy of understanding with regard to the secrets of the universe.

Thanks for reading my post.  I love to hear from my readers and share your thoughts.  I look forward to what’s next in this blog.  Sometimes I don’t know until a few days before they are due.  Until then, here’s to your health and wellness!
