I’m going to open this post with a very timely and innovative story about what has come to be called “Energy Medicine.” Then I will comment on the video clip and talk about “Energy Healing,” an altogether different story. Here’s the TED video clip.
DR. ROYAL RIFE’S CANCER CURE
This technology had its debut in the 1930’s with its inventor Dr. Royal Rife (1888-1971) in Southern California. He not only invented the wave generator that produced the exact frequency needed to blast cancer cells, he built a complex and elaborate microscope that could figure out the precise frequency of the cancer cells. His experiment with cancer patients sent to him by medical doctors was so successful – 100% successful – that it posed an existential threat to the then upcoming medical and drug industry. So dire was the threat that his lab was burned down and his equipment destroyed, leading to his “tragic demise at the hands of the AMA, led by their attack dog Morris Fishbein, and ultimately the FDA’s police actions.” He died a pauper somewhere south of the border in Mexico. A sad ending for a great soul’s earthly journey. Rife technology resurfaced, thanks to the Internet, some years ago and is being used by alternative healthcare practitioners worldwide. Medical science has no right to claim “discovery” of this technology.
There is a caveat hidden within this technology, however, which the good professor did not address; probably isn’t even aware of it. Here is the big caveat: Auto-Immune Disease Syndrome (AIDS) can result from blasting cancer cells with sound or with any other chemical or mechanical force. Here’s how:
INAPPROPRIATE DNA PRESENCE
When a cell dies from natural causes, a process called apoptosis (cell suicide), the cellular debris is neatly packaged in a membranous capsule, DNA and all, for safe elimination from the body via the lymphatic system and ultimately the bloodstream and appropriate organs of elimination.
On the other hand, when a cell is blasted and destroyed by foreign outside forces, such as sound vibration in this TED presentation, the cellular debris is ejected into the body fluid around the cell, DNA and all, where it is picked up piecemeal by the lymphatic system and dumped into the bloodstream for conveyance to the appropriate organs of elimination.
So, is there a problem with this? Yes there is.
The problem with this is that the DNA of organs and tissues do not belong in the bloodstream and therefore becomes a toxic substance simply by reason of its inappropriate location in the body, and the immune system will attack and destroy it as a toxic threat.
Well, that’s good, isn’t it?
Yes and no. Yes, it’s good that the immune system attacks and destroys misplaced DNA and other cellular debris dumped into the bloodstream by the lymphatic system. No it is NOT good that the immune system attacks any part of SELF, and DNA is very much a part of SELF.
There is some promising cancer research being done and used in the area of what is being labeled “Immunotherapy” which somehow elicits an anti-tumor immune response in the body by turning on the T-cells to search and destroy cancer cell without the toxic side effects of chemotherapy. MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston is pioneering this new technology. When I first read about it three years ago they were able to turn on the T-cells but had not yet found a way to turn them off, which could lead to autoimmune conditions. I note that Immunotherapy is now out and being used against some cancers in humans, so I trust they have resolved this problem. I have not yet learned how the destroyed cancer cells are safely eliminated from the body.
Auto-Immune Disease Syndrome is a condition where the immune system of the body attacks SELF — that is, any part of the its host body that belongs to that body. For example, if the cancer cell is a thyroid cell — remember, cancer is the proliferation of normal cells out of the control of the body — it contains the DNA of the thyroid cell. When the immune system attacks this thyroid DNA in the bloodstream, it may well turn on the thyroid gland itself and begin attacking the DNA in the cells of the gland. This is the underlying cause of Hashimoto. The same holds true for every organ, gland and tissue in the body where cancer is attacked from outside the body. The cellular debris is not properly encapsulated for safe and secure elimination and the immune system may well turn on that organ, gland or tissue having identified its DNA as a toxin in the bloodstream. The patient is made vulnerable to the development of an autoimmune condition.
ECHINACEA & IMMUNE SYSTEM MODULATION
There is a protective measure available, and it’s Echinacea. Echinacea is an herb that helps modulate, or balance, the immune system. When the immune system is hypo (under-active), the body is vulnerable to infectious diseases caused by the invasion of pathogens, such as strep and staph bacteria and viruses. When the immune system is hyper (overly aggressive), then the body is susceptible to an autoimmune conditions, such as Hashimoto, Rheumatoid arthritis, Lupus and Celiac disease, just to name a few. (Click HERE to learn more)
It is smart prevention to take Echinacea on a daily basis. There’s been a misunderstanding about this herb in that it has been wrongfully touted as a booster or stimulant to the immune system. It is that, but only if the immune system is hypo-active. Echinacea is not only an immune system booster but a calming herb for the immune system. This is why it can be taken daily to keep the immune system balanced and ready to meet whatever condition threatens the integrity and wellbeing of the body.
I personally take Echinacea Premium by Mede-Herb every day. I like this preparations of Echinacea because it includes the root of the plant in its formula where the modulating properties are found. Echinacea Premium comes in liquid and tablet form for easy dosing. One teaspoon or tablet per day provides excellent immune system support. You can order this product through me. Now a few words about “Energy Healing,” which is totally different from “Energy Medicine.” We must understand that only the life of the body heals the body, and that healing comes from within and not from without. Sound doesn’t heal. Only Life heals, specifically that aspect of Life we call Love, the cohesive power that holds the Universe together. Sound, especially pure tones and harmonic sound, may be used to soothe a troubled heart and condition the body to receive healing from within. It can be used to provide a vibrational carrier wave for the healing power of Love and for moving healing energy through the whole person, body-mind, heart and spirit. I use sound in my healing and attunement service in this manner.
Attunement is a vibrational healing art that works with the energy-management systems of the Endocrine Glands and the Chakras in balancing and harmonizing them. The Attunement Current, as it is called in this field of the sacred healing arts, is the healing and transforming current of Love. Inherent in the Attunement Current are all of the many and various frequencies to be found in the body. There are seven primary tonal frequencies, just as in music and in the light spectrum.
Also inherent in Life is the Intelligence that knows how and when to apply these frequencies in the body. This is not so with sound that is applied to the body for healing purposes. The tonal frequencies of Love are applied in the body by way of light photons, and it is the Force of Love that transports Light.
LIGHT IS ALIVE
Here is something of a description of how this works that I found while re-reading David Wilcock’s thoroughly researched and profoundly written book THE SYNCHRONICITY KEY.
In his research into the underlying causes of cancer, Dr. Fritz-Albert Popp discovered back in 1970 that DNA stores photons, and later discovered that all different forms of life were absorbing photons into their DNA. “The photons,” he found, “seemed to be intelligently directed–as if they knew where they were going and were being guided from one organism to the other.”
Furthermore, when Popp broke open a DNA molecule with a chemical known as ethidium bromide, a flood of about a thousand photons surged out. This suggests that each DNA molecule is like a miniature fiber-optic cable. Photons zing back and forth inside the DNA at light speed until they need to be used by the body. Popp also found that these photons were intimately related to our level of physical health. In areas of the body that were weakened or diseased, the amount of light stored in our DNA was significantly lower–or could almost be entirely absent . . . and that as we go through stress, our DNA sheds more and more of its light and quickly grows darker. . . . When healing needs to occur, our DNA apparently releases photons so the light can go make the repairs that are needed.
Another great pioneer in this category is Dr. Glen Rein a biochemist who graduated from the University of London. Rein found that we can control how much light is being stored in someone else’s DNA. Loving, nurturing thoughts create a healing response, increasing the number of photons in the DNA, whereas sudden anger and aggression pulled the light right out of the molecule. In this case, the DNA was from an entirely different person’s body, in a tissue sample from a human placenta. Additionally, Dr. Rein’s participants could consciously control whether or not they were healing the DNA. When they intended to heal the DNA in the placenta, it worked; but if they just focused on being loving and did not direct their minds toward the DNA, the number of photons inside it remained unchanged.
Wilcock draws a profound conclusion:
If we reimagine the universe as a single, vast, living being, then all aspects of the universe are alive. The universe is now built to make biological life–on the quantum level. Light, therefore, would be alive in its own right.
In this model of a living universe, which I prefer to describe as the cloak of the Living God, love is both the creator of biological life forms and the power that transports the substance of light between organisms–within the body and between bodies, distance notwithstanding. With our very thoughts of someone far away we create a vibrational channel through which love moves light to offer healing to another–and to our world.
This, to me, is the magic of the Attunement Current, in which all tonal frequencies used in creating and healing biological forms are contained and intelligently guided. These frequencies are the tones, overtones and undertones of Sacred Sound. Making them audible is a profoundly transformative experience.
In this Holy Season of Christmas, we have the blessed opportunity again to share the Light of Love with one another, through our carols, cards and gifts. In that light, I pray the blessings of the One whose birth we celebrate this time of year find a peaceful place in our hearts to rest. And may the New Year bring you unexpected joy and surprising adventures.

I received this good news video on mushroom science and cancer cures from the mushroom guru himself, Paul Stamets. He helped his own aged mother cure herself of stage 4 breast cancer after her oncologist gave her little hope with chemotherapy alone. The doctor actually suggested she look up Turkey Tail mushrooms for their promising cure of non-estrogen responsive breast cancer. I’m impressed! Enjoy and spread the word.
Great story, yes? According to a publication of MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, they’re doing research right now into empowering the human immune system to fight back and kill cancer cells with hopes of eliminating chemotherapy. I believe they are exploring “Myco-Medicinals”, specifically Turkey Tail mushrooms, for their immune-boosting properties. Promising research. Stay tuned.
Here’s to your health,

I’ve been sharing and commenting on an interview in the December, 2014 issue of The SUN magazine with master herbalist Stephen Buhner, a magazine that traditionally carries quality writings by little-known authors. We’ve been talking about herbs as “living medicines” as opposed to pharmaceutical drugs, and I thought my readers would be interested in knowing more about specific herbs and their benefits. So, here are some of the more popular herbs I use in my practice to support the healing process and healthy function in general. I will highlight in this post some of the herbs that help circulation and the immune system in the body and support the body rather than do its job for it and thereby depriving it of its education on handling environmental toxins and invasive germs, viruses and bacteria. So, read on if you want to know more about these living medicines and their benefits to your health and longevity.
HERBS THAT HEAL
BILBERRY — is the herb of choice for eye conditions such as macular degeneration and cataracts. That’s because it supports microcirculation through the small capillaries in the eyes. But not just in the eyes, also in the brain and throughout the entire body. Additionally it . . .
- Promotes vascular integrity

- enhance immune system function
- maintain feeling of general well-being
- assist the body during convalescence
- facilitate the body’s normal response to occasional stress
- promotes a healthy response to environmental stress.
- Caution: Contraindicated in known allergy to plants of the daisy family. Discontinue during an acute infection or fever.
CAT’S CLAW — is an herb for the intestinal flora. I use it with yeast infection for its support to the immune system in the intestinal tract where the largest portion of the immune system operates. Medi-Herb combines Cat’s Claw inner stem bark, Pau d’Arco stem bark and Echinacea root in their Cat’s Claw Complex. Together these herbs and the compounds within them help to:
- enhance immune system function
- support respiratory system health
- maintain healthy mucous membranes
- promote healthy bowel flora
- regulate bowel function
- support and maintain healthy blood
- provide antioxidant protection
- promote healthy response to environmental stresses
PLEURISY ROOT — is a great herb for bronchial conditions such as bronchitis and acute or chronic cough. Medi-Herb combines several herbs together in their Broncafect to give powerful support to the bronchial tubes: Licorice root, Pleurisy root, Echinacea root, White Horehound herb, Thyme essential oil, and Ginger. Together these herbs and essential oils help to:
- support health respiratory tract function
- maintain healthy mucosal tissue
- support normal mucous flow
- support the body’s natural ability to break up respiratory secretions
- support the body’s normal cough reflex
- encourage a healthy environment to help maintain normal respiratory flora
- enhance immune system function
- promote healthy white blood cells
- promote healthy throat tissue
- assist the body in maintaining normal body temperature within normal range
- promote the body’s normal resistance function
- CAUTION: Licorice root’s inclusion in Broncafect makes it contraindicated in high blood pressure, edema, (water retention), congestive heart failure, low blood potassium, pregnancy and lactation. Pleurisy root alone is not contraindicated in the conditions mentioned.
MULLEN LEAF — also known as “lamb’s ears,” is a mucous removing herb. Medi-Herb combines Mullen Leaf with five other herbs in ResCo that work together in removing mucous from the lungs and sinuses. They are Licorice root, Euphorbia, Grinellia, Ginger, and Fennel. These key phytochemicals and other compounds within this herbal formulation work to:
- support healthy mucous membranes within the respiratory tract
- encourage healthy removal of mucous
- help maintain throat health
- support healthy respiratory function
- assist in maintaining healthy airway passages
- support the body’s normal cough reflex
- encourage normal secretion removal from the respiratory system
- promote the body’s normal resistance function
- CAUTION: Licorice root’s inclusion in ResCo makes it contraindicated in high blood pressure, edema, (water retention), congestive heart failure, low blood potassium, pregnancy and lactation. Mullen Leaf alone is not contraindicated in the conditions mentioned.
- help maintain healthy mucous membranes
- cleanse the gastrointestinal tract
- assist in maintaining healthy breathing passages to support free and clear breathing
- help maintain healthy mucus function
- stimulate digestion
- support the normal production and flow of bile
- help support the body’s response to environmental stress
- CAUTION: Contraindicated in pregnancy, lactation and high blood pressure.
ARE HERBS DANGEROUS?
Not nearly as dangerous as drugs — both prescribed and so-called “recreational.” We don’t hear about people dying from an overdose of or “complications” from herbs or nutritional supplements. It is drugs that kill people. There are some precautions to take where herbs may interfere with medications. St. John’s Wort is a good example. It will neutralize and destroy all drugs as they are processed in the liver. That’s why St. John’s Wort is such an effective liver detoxifying herb, and why you don’t want to take it while on vital medications. It’s also a powerful anti-viral agent. However, there are relatively few contraindications and fewer negative side effects taking herbs and nutritional supplements.
There are too many herbs to review in a blog such this. Some are best used under professional supervision. Chaparral is one such herb that is so powerful as an antimicrobial and immunostimulant that it should be used only on a short term basis, 10-14 days in most cases, and in cycles of two week on and two weeks off. People with pre-existing kidney and liver diseases such as hepatitis and cirrhosis should not take Chaparral in large dosages and then only with professional supervision.
SAFE FOR THE GUT FLORA
As mentioned in an earlier post, the use of antibiotics will often destroy the beneficial bacteria in the GI tract. Probiotics should be taken while dosing with oral antibiotics to replace the friendly bacteria that are being destroyed. Natural antimicrobial herbs do not harm the intestinal flora, and in most cases help to bring about a balance.
MEDICAL IGNORANCE OF HERBS
Your medical doctor will usually ask you to discontinue taking herbs if he or she is not well informed and educated in their uses and contraindications, and that is very wise. Medical doctors study pharmaceuticals in medical school, not nutritional and herbal therapies. Some herbs do have potential interactions with prescription drugs, most at a low level of risk. Medi-Herb provides its doctors with ample information and quick-reference charts to guide them in prescribing herbs and their dosages. It is always best to consult with an herbalist or eclectic (alternative) practitioner about the possible interactions of herbs with any prescription medications you may be taking.
WILL HERBS EVER REPLACE PHARMACEUTICALS ?
Eventually, but not in my lifetime. I believe we will soon be forced to abandon antibiotic dosing simply because it will become increasingly ineffective against the super-bugs antibiotic overuse is creating — and not only in our health care system but in our agricultural practices as well. I am obviously enthused about the potential Living Medicines have in offering alternatives to pharmaceuticals. Currently, we humans are not healthy enough in general to abandon our dependence upon prescription drugs. Therefore it is the better course of wisdom to use nutritional and herbal therapies as “integrative” therapies rather than as “alternatives” to drug interventions. The word “alternative,” as I use it in my practice and writings, is not meant to be construed as “instead of.” So, I would caution my readers to align with my way of viewing alternative healthcare as an “integrative” methodology in the current pharmaceutical-dominated health care system. In most instances, alternative therapies such as nutritional supplements and herbs actually help prescribed medications work better and more safely in the body. They are second only to the placebo and prayer.
I trust you have benefited from these posts on Living Medicines Vs Pharmaceuticals. This post will conclude this series of considerations. Until my next post, then. . .
Here’s to your health and natural healing.

When you use a living medicine and get well, you feel that the world is alive and aware and wants to help you. People often talk about saving the Earth, but how many times have you experienced the Earth saving you?
I’ve been sharing an interview with herbalist Stephen Buhner in THE SUN magazine on the efficacy of herbal medicine and the dangers of placing our healthcare system in the hands of the pharmaceutical industry, which the Medical profession relies entirely on when it comes to prescribing chemical drugs to relieve the symptoms of disease. While drugs do relieve symptoms – the reason people go to doctors in the first place – they do not effect a cure. They’re not designed to. Besides making huge profits for the Big Pharma, drugs are designed to relieve pain and mask symptoms — a purpose that has great meaning and usefulness in a hospice care facility but little if any meaning and value in a facility that claims to render “health care.” Herbs, on the other hand, are designed by Mother Nature to effect a cure. The main requirement, however, is patience on the part of the patient. (Pun intended.)
Herbs do not cure. Rather they give the body living medicine the body can work with to cure itself of disease. It is the inborn Intelligence of the body, of course, that directs the healing process–Life. And Life works within the time frame of its own wisdom and cycles. Drugs interfere with those cycles by nullifying the symptoms of pain and malfunction that trigger the healing process. Herbs facilitate the healing process. It just takes time.
For example, anti-inflammatory drugs reduce the inflammation in tissues and joints that, for one thing, stop us from doing what is damaging the tissues and joints. We won’t do what hurts. That’s the body’s wisdom at work, which we defeat when we take pain killers. The other and main thing, however, is that inflammation is the first and initiating phase of the healing process. When you nullify this phase, you stop the repair process of the damaged tissue, which means you’ll never experience healing as long as you’re taking Ibuprofen or Tylenol or any number of other pain killers. It’s that simple. Stephen Buhner tells his personal story working with herbs.
Ahuja: What was your first experience with herbal medicine?
Buhner: When I was thirty-four, I became quite ill with severe abdominal cramping. The doctors didn’t know what it was. I met a local herbalist, and she mentioned that a certain plant growing in the forest around my house was good for my condition. The doctors wanted to do exploratory surgery, but instead I ate some of the plant. The pain was about half as severe the next time it happened, and the next time about half again, until finally it just went away. After that, I began to take control over my own health.
Ahuja: What was the plant?
Buhner: It was a perennial herb called osha. I just dug up the root and began eating it. It’s got a spicy, celery-like taste. Not only did I feel my body getting better, but I could feel, inside, some living entity that cared about me. It’s difficult to explain, because it’s not something we generally talk about in the West. When you use a living medicine and get well, you feel that the world is alive and aware and wants to help you. People often talk about saving the Earth, but how many times have you experienced the Earth saving you?
HERBAL MEDICINES AND THEIR HEALING GIFTS
Here are a few herbal medicines with which I am familiar:
BOSWELLIA – is a natural anti-inflammatory that does not interfere with the healing and repair process. It rather helps it work faster. It is especially effective in the intestines when they become irritable. Cases in point are IBS, ulcerative colitis, and Crohn’s Disease. I use Boswellia Complex by MediHerb and Standard Process Labs, which is a synergistic combination of Boswellia gum, Celery seed, Ginger, and Tumeric. These and other compounds work together to:
- Support the normal function of the kidneys to clear acidic waste products effectively, like uric acid that causes gout.
- Maintain and support healthy joints.
- Promote the body’s normal resistance function.
- Support healthy circulation.
- Support healthy response to environmental stresses.
- Provide antioxidant protection.
ECHINACEA – here is an herb for the immune system, and its healing gift lies primarily in its root and less in its foliage. This herb does not stimulate or activate the immune system, as is commonly thought, but rather acts as a modulator to the immune system, regulating its response to various stress needs in the body. In the case of infection, it up-regulates the immune response and boosts the white cell count. In the case of autoimmune disease, it down-regulates the immune system. As with all systems in the body, balance is the key to healthy function.
Master Herbalist Dr. Kerry Bone of MediHerb has thoroughly researched this herb and here is what we now know about Echinacea:
- Echinacea is both misunderstood and underestimated. There are many Echinacea products available which differ according to species, plant part, quality markers and dosages. The wide variety of products available is why there is controversy surrounding Echinacea and its effectiveness.
- Echinacea is commonly thought of as an herb for winter season stresses and only for short-term use. Kerry Bone’s applications for Echinacea are much broader than this and you may wonder why this is. Kerry has spent many years both researching and prescribing Echinacea for thousands of patients. His passion for Echinacea led to the MediHerb research project and a greater understanding of Echinacea and how it works. For full details of MediHerb’s Research visit mediherb.com and search for The MediHerb Echinacea Research Story on the Echinacea – A New Understanding page.
- The research results validate the traditional wisdom of Echinacea, and that is to achieve good clinical results you must use only a root preparation with high levels of alkylamides. An important aspect of any herb, or nutrient for that matter, is its bioavailability. Echinacea angustifolia and E purpurea contain high levels of alkylamides which are easily absorbed in the body.
- MediHerb’s Echinacea Premium is the best Echinacea product on the market because of its high levels of alkylamides. You can tell if the Echinacea product you are taking is derived from the root by how it imparts a persistent tingling sensation on your tongue.
- Daily dosage with Echinacea Premium (1 a day) will help keep your immune system balanced and ready to respond to the stress needs of the body.
BACOPA HERB – helps in the retention of memory. I have had students taking Bacopa while listening to lectures and studying for exams. This helped them retain what they were hearing and reading. Then, when exam time came along, they would switch to Ginkgo Biloba, which helps in memory recall. MediHerb’s Bacopa Complex combines the herbs Bacopa, Schisandra, Eleuthero and essential oil of Rosemary. These herbs contribute key phytochemicals that combine with many other compounds to:
- Enhance mental clarity and support cognitive function.
- Support normal memory function.
- Support physical endurance.
- Ease the effects of temporary and occasional environmental stress.
- Nourish the nervous system.
GINKGO BILOBA – helps in memory recall and has a variety of healthy benefits. MediHerb’s Ginkgo Forte contains flavonoids, terpene lactones (including ginkgolides and bilobalide) and other phytochemicals that work synergistically to:
- Support memory and cognition.
- Promote alertness and mental clarity.
- Help support healthy mental function.
- Support good health in older adults.
- Promote healthy circulation to the brain and peripheral areas of the body which is important for the delivery of oxygen and vital nutrients.
- Support a healthy cardiovascular system.
- Support and encourage healthy blood.
- Provide antioxidant support to help protect nerve cells and other tissues.
- Support normal hearing.
- Support eye health.
- Beneficially modulate cortisol during periods of stress.
- Reduce the congestive symptoms of premenstrual syndrome.
GYMNEMA SYLVESTRE – is the herb of choice for diabetics in Australia, which many folks use exclusively to regulate their blood sugar. It literally nullifies the sweetness in sugar. When you put a little bit of Gymnema tincture into your mouth, or suck on a tablet, you will not be able to taste the sweetness in candy for several minutes. You will taste the flavor of a mint, but not its sweetness. MediHerb’s Gymnema 4g tablet and its Gymnema 1:1 tincture deliver a powerful dose of this amazing sugar-destroying herb, which is effective in diabetic and hypoglycemic conditions alike. The complex mixture of saponins (gymnemic acids) and other compounds work together to:
- Maintain healthy blood sugar levels when combined with a balanced diet.
- Maintain normal cholesterol levels in a normal range.
- Help support normal cravings for sugar in the diet.
I will continue sharing information about popular herbs and their benefits in my next post in two weeks. Until then, here’s to your health and natural healing.

Pardon me for turning to Sacred Scripture for inspiration during our current health crisis. But we definitely live under a fear-based governance promoted by the news media. If it isn’t the “threat” of ISIS — which has taken second place to Ebola in the media’s more current entertainment agenda — then it’s the scare of an Ebola pandemic. But don’t you let your guard — and your immune system — down. Perfect love not only casts out fear but it keeps what you are being led to fear at bay. Remember what Job cried out in his troubles: “…that which I was afraid of is come unto me.” Actually, that entire scene of chapter three is a perfect meditation piece to dwell upon for the length of this post.
Job was utterly depressed to the point of despair. Have you ever been there and cried out like Job: “I wish I had never been born!”
(Vs 3-5) Let the day perish wherein I was born, and the night in which it was said, There is a man child conceived. Let that day be darkness; let not God regard it from above, neither let the light shine upon it. Let darkness and the shadow of death stain it; let a cloud dwell upon it; let the blackness of the day terrify it.
Wow! He was in a very, very low state of mind and spirit. Job goes on with a tirade of words condemning the day he was born. I wonder if those who have contracted the death-dealing plague of the day feel as Job did as they face certain death. Apparently, Job’s boils and great loss of family and wealth appeared to him to be harder to bear than had he been born dead — “. . . as infants which never saw light….[where]…the wicked cease from troubling; and…the weary be at rest.” Then he says something very interesting a few verses down at the end of this chapter:
(Vs 23-26) Why is light given to a man whose way is hid, and whom God hath hedged in? For my sighing cometh before I eat, and my roarings are poured out like the waters. For the thing which I greatly feared is come upon me, and that which I was afraid of is come unto me. I was not in safety, neither had I rest, neither was I quiet; yet trouble came.
Job was not an individual but was a representation of the body of Humanity on earth at that time. Job was a people, in other words; a collective body of humanity — like the Lemurians or the Atlantians — “whom God hath hedged in.” Hedged in, protected from harm, and immune to disease. But by what? What would hedge us in so that we would be immune to the Ebola virus, or to any and all forms of pestilence and plagues?
Well, Job named the conditions that broke down his hedge of immunity: “I was not in safety, neither had I rest, neither was I quiet.” Hmm. Not in safety — exposed, in other words. Had no rest — tired and worn out. Was not quiet — busy doing to keep from being worried about the future and the consequences of living out of one’s integrity.
Safety can be seen as doing the right things for our bodies, minds and hearts. Such as eating healthful foods and exercising regularly. Supplementing with wholefood nutrients where healthy foods are not readily available, and where one is eating on the run — which is not very safe healthwise — and dosing daily with immune system modulating herbs like Echinacea and antioxidants. It can also be seen as pertaining to living in the moment, the only place that is safe and real, and where life is. That has to do with conscious living, doesn’t it. You’re not safe if you’re mind is not present while driving your car or carving the turkey, just to name a couple of activities that put us in harm’s way if we’re not mindful of what we are doing. It also pertains to our hearts and emotions, our spiritual life, in other words.
Rest speaks for itself. The body needs rest as much as activity. Balance needs to be maintained between work, play and rest. Play can be a rest from work. Rest, of course, is essential to the revitalization, repair and growth of cells in the body. Six to eight hours of sleep are generally recommended for adults. Children need as much as nine hours simply because they are in a growth cycle and expend a lot of energy playing hard. Rest also pertains to presence of mind and a heart that is at ease with what is, not judging things and wishing they were different. Accepting what is simply as what is.
Quiet, of course, is what most are not these days. A “noisome pestilence” invades our space every moment of the day, and even into the night in some big cities. The traffic, the television chatter, the daily newspaper and national and local news hours — the “daily crime report” is what I call our local evening news. But the real noise is not out there. It’s inside the hearts and minds for most. That’s why they need noise around them: to balance and drown out the noise inside. The so-called “music” of our young generation is a sad example. Even commercials have noisome background sound tracks to get the attention of potential buyers away from their inner troubled thoughts. Sometimes the commercials are more “entertaining” than the program.
A friend wrote a poem with this verse in it:
Busy thought and troubled feeling Trespass not in virtue’s wise serenity Where firm control and awful power eternally abide. Here earth’s pains are healed And cruel chaos of mind’s spawning Is called again to order and to beauty.
Meditation is an essential spiritual practice for one who wishes to be in a place of safety, rest and quietness of mind and heart. Just five or ten minutes of quietness and solitude — like the revitalizing “catnap” we older folks take — can give one a recharge of energy and an opportunity to gather one’s substance together in one place: the eternal Now. One’s substance can get spread out pretty thin at times, and that’s asking for trouble. Your substance is your hedge, especially strong and impenetrable when charged with the energy of love and joy. “Perfect love casts out fear.” Fear dissipates your hedge and opens your body temple to defilement by the noisome pestilence, and to viruses like Ebola.
Just as a side note: it’s interesting that the flu kills over fifty-three-thousand people every year and yet doesn’t engender nearly as much fear as the Ebola virus has in just a few weeks. Notice the “Get Your Flu Shot” signs in front of drug stores. Even while shopping at the super market the music coming over the speakers is interrupted by messages about shingles. “If you’ve had the chicken pocks, then you have the shingles virus in your body.” Fear drives our healthcare delivery system. Little wonder we are so weak and susceptible to diseases. Ebola has given the medical world a new reason to rev up the fear mode.
I will close this post with my favorite Psalm 91 as a meditative piece to secure our sense of safety, rest and quiet.
He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.
Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence.
He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.
Thou shall not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day;
Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday.
A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee. Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked.
Because thou hast made the Lord, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation; There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.
For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.
They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone.
Thou shalt tread upon the lion and the adler: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet.
Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name.
He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him.
With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation.
Who are “the wicked” that are receiving their reward in the wars and plagues of today? I will answer with the The Teacher’s response to a similar situation: “Let he that is without sin cast the first stone.” We as a race of human-doings are the wicked, and we are reaping our reward in the Middle East with ISIS and in Africa with Ebola. The Earth is fighting back to rid Herself of the parasitic plague we have become.
And what is the “snare of the fowler” from which we need deliverance? The bird-catcher. Birds are like thoughts that fly in and out of the belfry towers up in our heads. The mind snares thoughts that fly through it every moment of the day and blows them up into issues we should all be afraid of and fight over. Does your mind snare unwanted thoughts, crows and vultures sometimes?
“Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him in trouble.” What have I set my love upon? My life, perhaps? “He that loveth his life shall lose it.”
What we fear about Ebola is the loss of our life. Death seems inevitable without proper medicine. The only way through that fear is to love death itself as the perfect outworking for one’s life, given all the factors at play. It’s the only way back Home these days. By embracing the worst case scenario — death in this case — we take it within our hearts — in the “secret place of the Most High” that is within us, where the “shadow of the Almighty” prepares a place of safety where death has no sting. Death, even death, cannot come nigh me, for I cannot die. I am life and I am alive forever more.
Don’t let fear of Ebola overshadow your love for the Lord, who is perfect — your love for that which is perfect in yourself: life and truth, peace and tranquility, thankfulness and appreciation, honesty and integrity. Then get on with your life and LIVE! Be safe, and don’t let your heart be troubled by the troubles of the world.
Here’s to your health and to Life!

Here’s a great song about being brave and fearless. Enjoy!
It has been a month since my last post on this blog. With the Christmas holidays behind me, I have time to write another article. What I would like to write about in this post is one of my most favorite subjects — and one that is understood by precious few among my clients, family and friends. If it were truly understood by all of them, I would be swamped with people asking for help with their health issues. The precious few among my clients, family members and friends who do understand and appreciate healing with nutrition and herbs are down right enthused about this form of natural health care. The clinical name for it is “Trophotherapy” (pronounced tro-fo-therapy).
Dr. George Goodheart penned these words that capture some of the essence of trophotherapy:
THE RIGHT MEASURE
The body is intricately simple and simply intricate. If you produce the right measure for the right condition you get the right response.
Unlike the shotgun approach of most self-designed vitamin supplement programs too many take in an endeavor to treat their body’s ills and build their health, doctors and other healthcare practitioners who specialize in clinical nutrition take a more focused and specific approach in designing nutritional and herbal protocols for their clients.
As we considered in my previous post, trophotherapy is the backbone of what is known as “functional medicine” in that it addresses the primary factor is all health and disease issues, and that is the function of human anatomy, physiology and body chemistry. Where there is normal organic and glandular function and balanced chemistry, there is health. Where there is abnormal function and chemical imbalance in the body, there is disease. It’s that simple.
To restore normal function and balance body chemistry, the “right measure” of nutritional and herbal support for the “right condition” will bring about the “right response” that leads to health.
The key word here is response. It is your body’s response to the medicine your are ingesting for an ill condition that brings about a reversal of a disease process and triggers a healing process. This is how it works with all medicines, be they natural or pharmaceutical.
Many drugs, for example, are toxic substances designed to “kill” disease-producing pathogens in the body and manipulate body chemistry in such a way as to engender a response. Your body’s immune system responds by rising up against these poisonous chemicals to neutralize them and/or eliminate them from the body, and in the process of combating the drug, the pathogens are dealt with as well. This is how medicine works. And, as we all know, it often results in undesired and in some cases deadly side effects, for which other drugs are prescribed to counteract the harmful effects of the primary prescriptions.
Trophotherapy, or applied clinical nutrition, takes a different and more supportive and safe approach. Using natural and therefore harmless wholefood and herbal preparations, the alternative healthcare practitioner designs protocols that support the body’s own natural healing and repair processes. The body responds favorably when the right protocol is used. Hormonal glands begin to function properly again, blood and body chemistry balance out, and normal function is restored to organs and body tissues. Only a practitioner who is educated in applied clinical nutrition has the expertise to prescribe and monitor such a process. This is why it is always best to employ the services of a holistic practitioner in your natural health care rather than embarking on a do-it-yourself supplement program touted by some advertisement or internet solicitation.
It is not wise to self-diagnose your condition and then treat it with store-bought and internet-bought nutritional products. Your local healthfood merchant is not necessarily a qualified healthcare practitioner, neither is your local pharmacist.Taking high-potency vitamins and inorganic minerals will do more harm to your body than good. The best your body will do with them is treat them as drugs, which is what they are, and eliminate them before they do any harm. That is the body’s natural response to non-food substances you put into it.
You might argue that they make you feel good so they must be good for you. My reply is that they may make you feel good, but be assured that the only thing they do is stimulate energy and function in the body, which may perhaps make you feel energetic taking them, but they do nothing for your health and healing process. In that sense, the anti-vitamin propaganda we see on television put out by Big Pharma is accurate: Vitamins do little or nothing to reverse diseases and may be doing your body more harm than good.
In conclusion, trophotherapy is not vitamin therapy. It has nothing to do with taking vitamins to reverse disease and build health. It is a science, philosophy and art of natural healing with wholefood and herbal supplements that are designed to be administered by a licensed healthcare practitioner. That’s because they have to be prescribed in the “right measure” for the “right condition” in order to bring about the “right response” from the body’s innate intelligence that knows best how to heal and repair itself.
Stop poisoning your body with drugs and high-potency vitamin pills. Start nurturing your body and supporting its natural healing response with holistic trophotherapy. I’ve been using Standard Process and Medi-Herb products for decades in my holistic health care practice in clinical nutrition. Dr. Royal Lee, who founded Standard Process over a hundred years ago, led the way in forging a path to better health through trophotherapy. Master herbalist and professor Kerry Bone of Medi-Herb joined forces with Standard Process to make superior Australian herbs available to physicians in the USA. When you can have the very best, why settle for anything less?
I wish you each one a Healthy and Happy New Year and a prosperous 2014.

Visit my other blog at HealingTones.org for inspiring article on a variety of subjects. The current consideration is around the theme of “Our Electromagnetic Universe.”
Here’s a perspective I’ve been entertaining since the Twin Towers were destroyed, along with the lives of several thousand human beings, cells all in the larger body of Humanity. It came to me as I was viewing the tragic event on TV that fateful morning and feeling the wave of fear, disbelief and anger sweeping across the viewing public, and when President Bush declared war on terrorism. It’s come up again as I watch current events in Syria and our president’s leadership in the global community of Humanity and feel the wave of emotional reaction sweeping the nation, some of it being articulated on Face Book, with President Obama being judged as a “warmonger.” Is he?
War is a nasty business, but so is cancer and the battle that goes on in our bodies to deal forthrightly and ruthlessly with free radicals. There have always been “free radicals” in the world scene, and they are dealt with forthrightly.
There may be a larger picture to consider when judging President Obama’s decision to strike a blow to Syrian President Assad’s war machinery. This action, as with other aggressive actions taken by nations to eliminate terrorists and brutal dictators, can be viewed as an immune response in the body of Humanity. And, yes, the body of Humanity, like our own bodies, has an immune system, and it is just as aggressive as our body’s immune system when it comes to tagging toxins and eliminating them — inevitably at the expense of innocent and healthy cells, thousands giving their lives in the aggressive action.
Do we decry the loss of the thousands of body cells that die every minute, every hour, every day? Do we judge our body’s spirit and innate intelligence as a “warmonger” when it attacks pathogens, free radicals and cancer cells? It is spirit, after all, that governs our immune system. We certainly do no govern it with our conscious minds. Why is it not seen as spirit that governs the immune system of the larger body of Humanity, which is, after all, the Body of God on Earth? Just think about it. Stand back from the political drama paraded before our eyes on television — and from your own first flush of judgmental feelings — and take another look at it. That’s all.
America is literally a “Land of Love.” That’s what our nation’s name means. Do we not trust God’s hand in our nation’s presidential leadership? Do we think we know what moves in the hearts and spirits of great leaders in their decisions to take action on a global scale against those who would destroy and threaten the fabric of God’s Body for political gain and power? Or out of sheer insanity, as was Adolph Hitler’s crime against Humanity executed? I think we do not know what’s really moving behind President Obama of the Spirit of God and guiding his hand of leadership.
There’s a larger picture to consider. Let me not be so presumptuous as to think that I know what’s really afoot on planet Earth in these most unpleasant and tragic events. One thing I do know: “The truth is true and all is well. Unconquerable Life prevails.” And it isn’t always pretty.

Before we talk about chronic stress, there’s something we need to understand about the endocrine system and hormones. So, let’s talk about hormones first.
Hormones, I’ve learned, are a family and cannot be isolated and treated separately. This is likely why “hormone therapy” is the best we can come up with in treating the symptoms of hormone dysfunction. In medical science, we do not yet know how to restore function to hormonal glands when they malfunction—or, if we do, we’re not taking that route. The sole approach we’re taking with medicine today is the prescribing and ingesting of synthetic hormones, and in some cases the surgical removal of the malfunctioning gland altogether. Rather barbaric, I’d say, and a testament to our horse-and-buggy approach to sickness and health yet in this the twenty-first century.
Of course, “natural hormone replacement therapy” is now available. But we’re still putting the hormones into the body instead of correcting the malfunction. The old axiom can be applied here: “Give a man a fish and feed him for a day. Teach him how to fish and feed him for a lifetime.” You can give the body hormones or restore normal function to its own endocrine system. If you give the body hormones, the demand is taken away and the glands will not be called into action to produce their hormones.
Here’s were “Functional Medicine” comes into the health care arena to save the day—and our sacred endocrine system. I’ve taken a few seminars in what is called “Functional Endocrinology” and, believe me, it’s a comprehensive and truly wholistic approach to balancing body chemistry. It also requires specializing, so I would encourage you to seek out an alternative practitioner who specializes in Functional Endocrinology and Clinical Nutrition, or a least uses muscle testing for system strength analysis, such as Contact Reflex Analysis or Quantum Reflex Analysis, in determining functional deficiencies and appropriate nutritional and herbal support.
THE STRESS RESPONSE AND THE “HPA AXIS”
In functional endocrinology we have what is called the “HPA Axis” (Hypothalamus-Pituitary-Adrenal). These are the head coordinators of your endocrine family and are at the core of all hormonal activity, the most common of which is the “fight or flight” stress response. Here’s how that works. The hypothalamus apprises the pituitary gland about conditions in the body and around it. It’s the clearing house for information coming in through the five senses via the central nervous system. It says if it’s hot or cold, dangerous or safe, turbulent or peaceful in your world—including your physical body, your closest and most personal world. The pituitary gland received the information via chemical messengers from the hypothalamus and proceeds to send out a hormone precursor to the adrenal glands (as it does to all the glands) for further hormone production. The adrenal glands receive the precursors and squirts adrenalin into the blood stream to empower muscle cell activity. The blood vessels contract and the muscles get ready to act on your command. This is so with all cellular activity in the body. Every cell in your body needs adrenalin to function properly—or to function at all.
If the stress response is not shut off for a length of time—weeks and months—the stress becomes chronic. Chronic stress is a known contributor to fibromyalgia, as well as Chronic Fatigue (CFS), which is often caused by hypothyroid function. The adrenal and thyroid glands share a close relationship in the hormone family. The stress response triggers the production of adrenalin to get the muscles moving for flight or fight in the face of a threat—real or imagined. If a person doesn’t fight or flee from a threat and the threat is not removed, the adrenalin is not used up.
Adrenalin, like all hormones, becomes a toxin if not used up or removed from the blood stream and muscle tissue. It is used up in physical exercise. It is broken down by enzymes and removed by the lymphatic system—which also depends on exercise to move lymph fluid through the tissues and on to its final destination at the left subclavian vein just above the heart where it enters the blood stream. From there it is sent with the blood to the liver and kidneys to be filtered out and eliminated. If this doesn’t happen and the adrenalin remains in the tissues, two things happen. One, the adrenal glands are shut down by the pituitary gland, which gets the message from the hypothalamus that there’s no need for more adrenalin as the muscle tissues are saturated with it. Two, adrenalin, a steroid hormone called “cortisol,” is the bully of the hormone family if it doesn’t get its way. It wrecks havoc in estrogen chemistry balance and interferes with thyroid function.
There’s only one answer: deal with the stress factor. Fight back or flee the situation. Preferably, resolve it. Now, you can’t always do that, especially if the stress factor is your job or your marital relationship. You may need both—for a while anyway— so, denied a successful resolution, you stand or sit there in a state of quiet desperation while chronic stress sets in. This sends a message to your hypothalamus that you’re not going to do anything about the stress. A cascade of failures ensue:
- The hypothalamus gets confused and frustrated, or at best incoherent, and may simply shut down.
- This leaves the pituitary gland without clear and coherent instructions on what hormone precursors are needed by the family members of the endocrine system to make their hormones. An incoherent pituitary gland spells confusion and depression for the brain.
- The thyroid gland falls off in its production of thyroid and parathyroid hormones, directly impacting your metabolism. You gain weight and lose bone density.
- The thymus gland doesn’t get the feedback it needs about outside invaders and the possible need for an immune response.
- The Beta cells of the pancreas (Islets of Langerhans) don’t know how much insulin to make to keep blood sugar balanced, resulting in hypo and/or hyperglycemia.
- The adrenal glands just shut down leaving you with restless nights and no stamina during the day.
- Finally, the sex hormone glands (the gonads) go haywire without the pituitary gland’s stimulating hormone precursors—the menstrual cycle loses its regularity and your libido shuts down in the absence of any desire to reproduce your stressed-out self. Survival, not reproduction, growth and healing, is your body’s primary interest at this point.
You get the picture, I believe. A family feud breaks out among your hormone glands—all because your hypothalamus is confused and your adrenal glands are exhausted. The result is pain and more pain and a complete lack of energy. (I won’t repeat the diagnostic terms medicine has for these conditions so as not to re-enforce mental fixations that get in the way of healing.)
OXYTOCIN TO THE RESCUE!
There is one out. Relax, throw your shoulders back, smile and be thankful for your circumstance . . . that you have a circumstance! A thankful attitude releases oxytocin into the blood stream which disengages the stress response. So does a hug and a hand shake. So, find someone to hug—or just hug yourself— and shake hands with someone, anyone! Get that oxytocin flowing 🙂

TOTAL PROTOCOL SUMMARY
1. First, detoxify. Do a 21-day total body purification using the Purification Kit by Standard Process. The cost: $240. Repeat this purification program every 4 months for a year, then twice a year thereafter.
2. For gouty arthritis and fluid retention, abstain from highly seasoned and high purine foods (turkey, pork, heavy beef, lentils, dried beans, avocados, and beer) and take the following:
- AC Carbamide – 3 capsules with a tall glass of purified or spring water three times a day to support the kidneys in removing uric acid from the blood and excess fluid from the tissues. ($18/90 caps)
- Iodomere – 2 tablets with meals (6 a day) for thyroid support and to help the kidneys take up fluid. ($19/90 tabs)
- DermaCo herbal – one or two tablet per day to help maintain a normal level of uric acid in the bloodstream. ($28/40 tabs)
3. During and after the 21-day purification, support your lymphatic system with daily brisk walks or rebounding exercise and take the following:
- Take 10 drops of Lymphapar sublingual 3 times daily for 7 days then once daily for 90 days. ($14/1 oz bottle. You’ll need 3 or 4 bottles. Email me and I’ll send you some as this is not an SP product.)
- Add to that 1 Cal Amo tablet with each meal for 30 days. ($12/90 tabs)
- Take 4 Allerplex capsules twice a day to help get rid of metabolic waste and histamines, particularly from the lungs and bronchial tubes. ($24/150 caps)
4. Next, support your immune system with the following supplements over the first 90 days:
- Echinacea Premium (2/day)
- Immuplex (6/day),
- Thymex (6/day),
- St. John’s Wort (2/day) – Contraindicated with life-dependent medicines as it detoxifies drugs in the liver.
- Astragalus (2/day)
5. Support the stress-response and hormone system as detailed above.
Take this in steps and stages, and don’t rush the process. You didn’t get fibromyalgia or CFS overnight. Allow one month of correction for every year of chronic illness after going through a 90-day intensive. It takes that long to turn a deteriorating health pattern around and build an integrating health pattern. And, above all, be patient—and aim to maintain an attitude of gratitude! 🙂
This completes my consideration of fibromyalgia. I will resume my series “Seven Glands for Seven Spirits” with the next post. Until then,
Here’s to your health and healing . . . and a happy and healthy holiday season.

THE IMMUNE CONNECTION
Let’s talk about the immune connection to “fibromyalgia.” We’re talking about infection, a crucial step in the healing process. Without infection, we would quickly succumb to the ravages of toxic metabolic waste and invasive pathogens upon the body cells. Sounds like what “fibromyalgia” is all about—the ravages of toxic metabolic waste and invasive pathogens upon the body cells, which calls up an immune response to create an infection.
I’ve just made another “thought-process interrupt.” We automatically think of infections as something “bad” and a thing to “fight.” What I said above calls for different thinking—and that’s my intent in writing this blog: to help us think again and anew about dis-ease and health, but mainly about what we’ve called “disease.”
Notice I hyphenate that word when I use it, because there is no such thing as “a disease.” We’ve been programmed to think there is and that “disease” is our enemy that needs to be fought and destroyed with man-made chemical bullets, bombs and “surgical warfare.” But we’re only shadow boxing. Where diseases need to be gotten rid of is in human consciousness, where they are being invented, labeled and “cured” (as in preserved). That’s what you do when you cure something. You preserve it. Well, we need to stop curing disease and start supporting the healing processes of the body, which alone knows what to do about what we call “disease.”
There is a dis-ease created by such things as inflammation and infection. They don’t feel good. We’re not at ease with pain, and that’s as it should be, all things considered. Pain keeps us from hurting ourselves even further with inappropriate lifestyle activities. It should cause us to ask “Why does that hurt?” rather than “How can I get rid of this pain?” Pain is an alarm. You wouldn’t turn off the smoke or fire alarm. You would first look for the fire and seek to put it out. The smoke alarm will automatically shut off when the fire is put out and the smoke cleared out of the house. It’s the same with pain.
Our immune system creates fires all the time in order to burn up toxic waste. The only sensible thing to do is support it so it can do its job more quickly and efficiently. Fevers are life-savers and are not to be suppressed. They need to be allowed to burn at moderate temperatures (100 – 104). More than that is dangerous and should be brought down with cold applications to the head especially to prevent brain damage. Covering the body with blankets to help break a sweat will often break a fever.
So, let’s talk about supporting the immune system. Here’s its mechanism of action in medical terms. Read it first then I’ll break it down to help you understand it.
Cytokines mediate and control immune and inflammatory responses. Complex interactions exist between cytokines, inflammation and the adaptive responses in maintaining homeostasis, health, and well-being. Like the stress response, the inflammatory reaction is crucial for survival and is meant to be tailored to the stimulus and time. A full-fledged systemic inflammatory reaction results in stimulation of four major programs: the acute-phase reaction, the sickness syndrome, the pain program, and the stress response, mediated by the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis and the sympathetic nervous system.
Phew! That’s a mouth-full. First, let’s understand what “cytokines” are. Here’s the Wikipedia definition:
Cytokines (Greek cyto-, cell; and -kinos, movement) are small cell-signaling proteinmolecules that are secreted by numerous cells and are a category of signaling molecules used extensively in intercellular communication. Cytokines can be classified as proteins, peptides, or glycoproteins; the term “cytokine” encompasses a large and diverse family of regulators produced throughout the body by cells of diverse embryological origin
Simply stated, these are the messengers that alert the body’s immune system that the body has been invaded by harmful pathogens or free radicals. They mediate and control immune and inflammatory responses, just as it says. There is the “Redox Signaling Molecules,” for example. They play an important role in the body by activating antioxidants and turning on the immune response naturally to restore and maintain homeostasis—balance.
Watch this 5-minute video clip put out by ASEA as it contains a graphic demonstration of how cytokines work. Just bear with the promo for their product, although it represents a remarkable scientific breakthrough in the healthcare field, and I use the product myself and in my practice. This is important information to help us understand such modern-day health issues as “fibromyalgia” and “chronic fatigue syndrome.”
As you can see from the clip, the message has to get through to the immune system or else the invasion of pathogens and free radicals and the vulnerability of the cell walls will go unnoticed by the body.
IMMUNE ALLIANCE, NOT SYSTEM
Let me explain the so-called “immune system,” which is a misnomer. We do not “have” an “immune system” as such, although the thymus gland, spleen and bone marrow play pivotal roles in producing immune-response cells to deal with “non-self” toxins in the body. What we do have in an immune alliance which involves all the organs of the body, especially the organs of elimination, which includes the skin, by the way. So, just keep that in mind in your approach to supporting your “immune system.” For example, if you simply take antibiotics, pharma grade of natural, without doing something to clean out the metabolic waste with herbs, for instance, then you’ll end up crowding your lymphatic system with too much to handle on its own.
I’ll often give a client Congaplex or Thymex, “natural antibiotics” put out by Standard Process Labs, to support the body’s immune-response to strep and staph infections respectively. In a day or two the client often comes down with sinus congestion or swollen lymph nodes. This tells me that the lymphatic glands are congested, so I’ll back off from supporting the body’s immune response and start supporting its elimination system.
Standard Process and Medi-Herb provide superior products for this purpose, even natural antihistamines, like Antronex, Allerplex, and Fen-Gre to break up congestion in the sinuses and lymphatic glands, and ResCo, Broncafect, and PulmaCo to help clear out congestion in the bronchial tubes and lungs. A company by the name of Energique also provides a product called Lymphapar, which almost magically opens up the lymphatic glands—very helpful with lactating mothers, for which this sublingual homeopathic was formulated. These are all non-invasive, non-toxic, “natural medicines.” They are also quite affordable when compared to the escalating cost of drugs. Unfortunately, they are not covered by most insurance policies.
Invariably, a “virus” appears on the scene from seemingly out of nowhere to scavenge the debris left by dead cells that gave their lives putting out the fire of infection. That’s what they are and what they do—and they do appear to come from out of nowhere because they are simply normal cells of the body that have been transformed, morphed, and re-programmed as scavengers to clean up the mess left by the immune response, which I think is simply amazingly ingenious. So, we can then turn our attention to helping the body clean house so as to eliminate the necessity for the viral activity. This includes viruses that originate outside the body. They are still scavengers and they will not invade your body tissues if there is nothing there for them to scavenge. This emphasizes the importance of Fall and Spring full-body purification rituals.
Immuplex and St. John’s Wort help the body respond to viral infections. Herbal teas are helpful in eliminating waste. Bowel, liver and kidney detox products are plentiful. All one has to do is use them. Standard Process has a complete full-body Purification Kit with all the nutrients needed to clean out the body’s systems and tissues. Email me for product acquisition. ECHINACEA & IMMUNE-RESPONSE MODULATION
When we are sick we usually think in terms of “stimulating the immune system.” Well, that may or may not be the right call. It’s far better to think in terms of modulating your immune response. Modulation simply entails balancing the immune response, which will be under-active where infections persist and over-active where autoimmune conditions persist, such as AIDS and rheumatoid arthritis.
Echinacea herb is probably the most effective modulating botanical in Mother Nature’s cornucopia of natural medicines. Medi-Herb, a sister company to Standard Process, has the very best Echanicea product in their Echinacea Premium—and it can be taken daily as a preventative, by children and adults alike, to keep the immune response balanced and poised to act appropriately in response to infections and autoimmune issues.
Not all Echinaceas are equal. For example, the root of the augustifolia plant has more goodies for the immune system than the flowers of the purpurea plant. Traditional Echinacea is made from the flowers, which is why people who are allergic to plants of the daisy family have a sensitivity to traditional Echinacea (made from Echinacea Purpurea flowers). Echinacea Premium by Medi-Herb is made from the root of the Echinacea angustifolia. The natives in Australia, where Medi-Herb manufactures its products, would pass over the flowering purpurea plants and dig up the root type augustifolia plant, which resembles a carrot, because they knew it worked better than the flower type plants.
Master Herbalist Dr. Kerry Bone of Medi-Herb has discovered that it’s the high concentrations of alkylamides that impact the immune system and not the polysacharides, as traditional European herbalists believe. Echinacea Premium combines the roots of Echinacea angustifolia and Echinacea purpurea to enlist properties unique to each one in supporting the immune system. The following are some of it benefits:
- enhance immune system function (particularly non-specific immune function)
- support and promote normal interferon production
- support and promote healthy white blood cells
- support healthy immune response following stress, sudden changes in weather or temperature
- encourage healthy upper respiratory tissue
- support and maintain healthy throat tissue
- support healthy lymphatic system function
- stimulate the body’s normal tissue support and renewal function.
For maximum benefit, combine Immuplex and Echinacea Premium in your supplement protocol for immune response modulation and support. Email me for product acquisition and dosages.
And friends, you just need to stock up your “Natural Medicine Cabinet” with these products if you’re going to make the break from pharmaceutical drugs and start supporting your body’s immune system naturally. In this day and age, supplementation with wholefood nutritionals and herbs is unavoidable. And I walk my talk. Personally, I take up to 30 different supplements daily. That’s about 60 pills and capsules, a handfull at each meal. But that’s not much when I compare it to the three plates full of food I eat daily—and these are essences of wholefood concentrates designed and prescribed to reverse the “disease” process by balancing body chemistry—not “vitamin supplements,” which I strongly advise against.
For a personal consultation, email me for my telephone number and to schedule a time. My fees are very reasonable. We’ll talk more about the inflammatory and stress response systems in connection with fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue, which includes the thyroid’s involvement, in my next post. Until then,
Here’s to your health and healing,
