Whole Food Vs Half Food Supplements

Only whole foods are “natural.”

Tony Pics for SA BookWe are born to see things whole.  We have to be taught fragmentation.  When a child sees an apple, it sees something whole.  This is well before it knows even how to spell the word.  In fact, a child has to be taught how to spell a-p-p-l-e.   But first it has to learn the letters of the alphabet in order to know what the letters are.   As we parents and teachers know, learning to break things down into their individual component parts is hard work for a young child just learning this method of educating its mind about its world, moving from a sense of wholeness to one of fragmentation.  And it hasn’t even begun to learn all the parts that make up the apple itself, the vitamins, minerals and other nutrients we’ve called by various names in order to make our minds feel intelligent.

(The word “vitamin” is derived from the Latin “vita” (life) and “amines”, or vital amino acids.  These building blocks of the body are made of molecules that contain the key elements of Carbon, Hydrogen, Oxygen and Nitrogen).

But what really are all these various fragments that make up the whole apple?  There are over a hundred nutrients in an apple, no doubt why one a day may keep the doctor away.   The “uneducated” child, or layman, might well take a “Who cares?” attitude as it reaches for an apple in the fruit bowl.  All it knows is that it loves its taste and it looks delicious to the eyes.  On the other hand, try and give the child (and some adults) a vitamin pill that has some, if not all, of the “vitamins” an apple has, and you will not get the same response as you get offering it a whole fruit that it likes, such as grapes, strawberries, apples, blueberries and bananas.  “What’s that?” the child may ask.

Children love whole foods, and I don’t think it’s all about how delicious they look or taste.  There’s an innate sense at work in us that resonates with wholeness.  Granted, the little boy wants to take things apart to see what they’re made of and how they tick.  I don’t notice little girls doing much of that.  They rather cry when little brother takes their doll apart.  Hum……

Parts crave wholenesss

Scientists, largely male in gender, have fragmented the world into pieces the human mind can identify and tag.  It’s the nature of the beast.  However, in the process of taking foods apart to identify and tag their parts, even synthesize them by artificial means, they’ve discovered something very interesting, if indeed enlightening, about “parts” in the natural world:  parts crave wholeness and will seek out their “friends” and partners in life when turned loose in a natural environment.  They can be held isolated in a “controlled” lab test, but not outside this artificial environment.

Case in point

B Vitamins:  There are 9 of them known to be vital to human health.  There are some 20 other B Vitamins that have been identified in foods and animals, most of which we consume in our diets.  Notice how many of these are added to foods and “vitamin drinks” and put into high potency “B Complex” vitamin pills. You will usually find only 4 or 5,  but never 9 .  That’s because most, like Vitamin B4, cannot be extracted from food, nor can they be synthesized outside the body.  What is Vitamin B4?  Well, it’s only a co-enzyme that helps produce energy.  But it is essential to the rhythm of the heart beat.

You’ll not find B7 added to foods and drinks either.   How important is VitaminB7?   Well, it only governs the anatomical and functional integrity of the intestinal tract and prevents digestive disturbances.  You won’t find B17 either. Well, how important is Vitamin B17 (amygdalin, also known as laetrile, found in a number of seeds, sprouts, beans, tubers, and grains)?  It only helps rid the body of cancer cells.  And I could go on, but I won’t do all of your homework for you.  You can Google Vitamin B and read all about it yourself.  It’s quite complex . . . and very informative.

Then there are the co-factors.

What in the world are the co-factors?  Well, they’re all the stuff that’s left over and thrown out as dross after the vitamins have been extracted from the food – or in the case of synthetic vitamins, what the scientists consider un-necessary and insignificant (mainly because they can’t isolate, tag and duplicate them, nor comprehend their significance) and therefore counted for naught.  Yet, the co-factors are the critical ingredients that facilitate the function of the nutrients once they are incorporated into the body’s anatomy, physiology and chemistry. Vitamins cannot be utilized without minerals, for example.  It is the inclusion of this “insignificant dross” into his food supplements that makes Dr. Royal Lee’s whole-food philosophy, and therefore his supplements (Standard Process Labs, Palmyra, Wis.), a cut above the rest, setting the benchmark for the entire food-supplement industry.

Vitamins in their natural state always exist as living complexes with specific synergistic co-factors, enzymes, phytonutrients and organic mineral-activators, and never as isolated single factors.   A vitamin needs all of its synergists to function.  Further, there are literally hundreds of such synergists, most of which have not yet been studied but are nevertheless very important.”  (Health Light Newsletter, Sept. 2004)

Minerals are balanced and proportioned by and in the vegetable kingdom.  They are naturally “chelated” – clawed apart by organic acids in the roots of the plants – so that they can be utilized by the animal kingdom.  It is important that their ratio one to another is appropriate for proper absorption and utilization in the body.  Unchelated, raw, elemental minerals (rocks), such as calcium carbonate derived from crushed oyster shells or dolomite, cannot be ionized fast enough in the body to render them useful. Most calcium supplements are elemental calcium carbonate.  Read the label. You want calcium lactate or citrate.

My Point: Fractioned high potency vitamins, synthetic or “natural,” are chemicals (drugs), not food . The body will only accept whole food for its nourishment.  Anything less is a toxin and will be dealt with and eliminated as such by your body.  The fact is, they hurt your body.   Elemental minerals, such as calcium carbonate, that cannot be readily eliminated are deposited on long bones until they can be ionized, absorbed and utilized. It takes nine steps to ionize calcium carbonate so that it is useful.  Calcium lactate and citrate take only one or two steps, so they are almost immediately absorbed into the tissues when consumed.

Now – and here’s our lesson for today – when you take a “B Complex” pill, which is made up of only a few chemical parts of the whole B Vitamin food essence, you turn loose in your body fragmented, unstable and craving molecules, functionally free radicals.  They will immediately set out to find and attach themselves to their “friends” in order to re-establish their stability and wholeness. Where will they find their friends and partners in life?  Well, in your gut, your bloodstream, your organs, and your body tissues.  It’s called “leaching” in bio-chemistry and clinical nutrition.  In other words, these fragmented, unstable partial “vitamins” rob  your body of what they need to complete themselves, simply because Nature abhors a vacuum.  That’s the bottom line. They give you nothing and take away plenty of vital nutrients.  As drugs, they only offer stimulation to make you feel good taking them, and in that sense they act like addictive substances.  They add nothing, not a molecule, to the health of your body. I could not be more clear and simple in my wording.

For examples: “Vitamin C” (as ascorbic acid) is a good antioxidant but it’s not the whole Vitamin C.  It is the protective antioxidant of the C Complex, which consists of Biflavonoids, Tyrosinase (copper), Vitamins P, K and J factors.  Taken into the body, high-potency ascorbic acid leaches copper (tyrosinase) from it, an essential mineral to blood vessel integrity. Copper deficiency is at the root cause of bulging arteries (aneurisms).  Commercial “Vitamin E” as “d-alpha tocopherol,” may be another great antioxidant but it is not Vitamin  E.  Whole Vitamin E consists of four protective layers of tocopherols – that’s how fragile Vitamin E is – at the core of which are Selenium, Xanthine, Lipositols, Vitamins F1, F2, E2 and E3.  Taken into the body, high potency, synthetic d-alpha tocopherol – so called “Vitamin E” –  leaches selenium from the body, an essential mineral to cardiovascular health and the prevention of arterial plaque.  Yet the Food and Drug Administration allows these partial non-foods to be called “Vitamins C” and “Vitamin E” when they are not what they are called, a blatant display of the scientific fragment-oriented mentality.

We still can’t fool Mother Nature

Enough said perhaps to get my point across for this important lesson.  Stay away from vitamin pills that are not made of whole food substances created by Mother Nature, who alone knows how to put the chemical world together in proportions and quantities we can utilize to our health and wellness.  No matter how “smart” we are in breaking down the world into its fragmented parts and tagging them, we will never be able to outsmart or fool Mother Nature.  We only hurt ourselves by cutting corners.  Whole foods are our only true source of vitamins and minerals.

For me and my house, Catalyn by Standard Process Labs is by far the best whole-food vitamin and mineral supplement. Read it’s ingredients at www.standardprocess.com. It costs less than a nickel a day.  Send me an email and I’ll send you a four-month supply for $45, or a full year’s supply for only $125.  It also comes in a cherry-flavored chewable for children ($55 for 4 months supply when ordered along with 1 adult’s 4-months supply, or $65 if ordered separately (a year’s supply is $170).  Prices include drop-shipping and handling within the USA.

In conclusion:

There’s no such thing as a “One-A-Day” whole-food supplement.  The only “one-a-day” vitamin this doctor  recommends is the ripe and juicy apple.

Facts about Agave

Oh No!!!  Not Agave too!!!

Well,  just when I thought it was safe to sweeten my coffee with Agave, unfavorable facts about this high fructose sweetener surfaced through all the false and misleading reports put forth by the producers and distributors of this nectar of the agave plant.

I developed a high sensitivity and intolerance to high-fructose corn syrup (HFCS) over the years, which very quickly landed me in the hospital under the heart-surgeon’s knife.  The inflammatory process, triggered by the presence of artery-damaging corn protein in my blood , resulted in high-cholesterol production by my liver to patch up the eroding lining of my coronary arteries.  You see, I’ve had a sweet tooth since my childhood years.  With the introduction of HFCS in nearly everything I liked to eat and drink, my heart didn’t stand a chance against arterial blockages.  I had six bypasses in 2003 right here in Fort Collins, Colorado.  The cardiologist and heart surgeon attributed my high cholesterol and cardiovascular disease to hereditary factors, which apparently account for 5% of  cardiovascular cases. My dad and his Italian forbears had it, so I was destined to have it too.  Or so I was assured.

Well, I didn’t buy into this common explanation, and went in search for the real cause. My search led me to a clinical nutritionist in Houston, Dr. Stuart White of Whole Health Associates, who uncovered a food-intolerance related to corn and all corn-derived products, which he attributed to my European background.  Europeans, he explained, and their progeny appear not to have sufficient reserves of the kind of enzymes that break down the protein in corn, just as  Native Americans and their progeny don’t have the enzymes to break down the protein (gluten) in wheat.  If you remember from your American history, the Europeans died after eating corn the indian natives gave them in exchange for their wheat, and the indians died from eating the Europeans’ wheat.  So, depending on what your hereditary background is, you may have an intolerance to either wheat or corn — or  both if you have a mixture, which many living on this melting-pot American continent have.

Note:  The undigested protein from corn or wheat finds its way into the bloodstream through the lining of the gut.  Here is where the inflammatory process kicks in to deal with undigested food matter, such as corn protein and wheat gluten.  With chronic inflammation comes irritable bowel syndrome (ibs) and Crohn’s disease, which leads to what is called “leaky-gut syndrome.”  The eroded lining of the gut allows protein molecules to enter the blood sream.  This triggers an immune response of histamine production to literally flush the protein out of the blood through the mucous membranes of the lungs and sinuses. Thus we have what are often called “food allergies” but are more accurately called “food intolerances.” Much of what is back of  “COPD”, or chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder, which is really a chronic cough, is a food intolerance triggering histamine production that congests the bronchial tubes, resulting in a chronic cough to get the protein-laden mucous up and out.

So, the cardiologist was accurate in attributing my cardiovascular disease to genetic factors, only the genes responsible are not cardiovascular genes, as though my body was programed genetically to have coronary heart disease.  It is rather that my European genes lack the factors that help produce enzymes to break down protein in corn, which can lead to inflammation – which can lead to erosion of the inner lining of blood arteries – which triggers  cholesterol production in the liver – which can lead to plaque in the arteries to prevent them from leaking – which can lead to heart-attack and bypass surgery.  In short, I did not inherit heart disease from my father.  I simply inherited his European genes with their shortcomings in digesting corn protein.  What an important revelation!  Thank you Dr. White!

Today one of my associates forwarded the following to me and I found it so important that I felt I should pass it on to my readers.  Needless to say, after reading this, I’m back to using raw sugar in my coffee instead of Agave!  All things in moderation, of course.

Is this Popular Natural Sweetener Worse than High Fructose Corn Syrup?

Posted By Dr. Mercola | July 03 2010 | 155,922 views

By Dr. Mercola

Many people interested in staying healthy have switched to agave as a safer “natural” sweetener. They want to avoid well documented dangerous sweeteners like HFCS (high fructose corn syrup) but are unaware that most agave is actually WORSE than HFCS.

Once I realized this, I wrote a special report on agave to inform the public of this danger. I was somewhat surprised that the report would prompt such a firestorm of debate within the industry.

A number of natural agave manufacturers and health conscious consumers still proclaim agave is a safe, all-natural sweetener that is good for everyone.

Some have even criticized me for having ulterior motives. But nothing could be further from the truth. Although I do offer natural health products for sale on this site, I sell no competing products to agave.

Rather, I recommend other options such as stevia products. You can also use xylitol in small amounts or glucose, which is sold commercially as dextrose, and can easily be purchased on Amazon for $1 per pound. I do not sell any of these products.

My only purpose for sharing this information is to help people understand the truth about health. In case you haven’t noticed, we have an epidemic of obesity in the US and it wasn’t until recently that my eyes opened up to the primary cause — fructose.

Yes, it is all about freedom of choice. It is hard to have freedom if you aren’t given the entire story, and up until now that has been the case with agave.

Sunshine, tans and skin cancer

Sunshine is only dangerous to people deficient in “Vitamin F”

Skin cancer appears to be on the increase among sun-bathers and tanning bed users, the latter being singled out as the prime culprit for the increase due to year-round use by a vast number of young “looks-conscious” adults.  It seems that tanning beds are the latest addiction, fed by soaking up skin-burning (and that’s what it smells like inside these tanning chambers) UV rays that produces feel-good endorphins.  So, I thought an article on the subject would be helpful as people head to the beaches for summer fun and natural skin tanning.

Sunshine is only dangerous to people deficient in “Vitamin F.”   Yes, I said “Vitamin F”, which is what Dr. Royal Lee, founder of Standard Process Labs, first named Essential Fatty Acids (EFA).  EFA’s are  linolenic, linoleic and arachidonic acids.  Flaxseed oil is a very excellent source of EFA’s.  Flaxseed oil is a very unstable and fragile oil that goes rancid when exposed to light or air, so it is best to take it encapsulated in a pearl. Standard Process’ Linum B6 is probably the safest Flaxseed oil product available (go to www.standardprocess.com and search for Linum B6).

Flaxseed oil should be packaged in dark bottles and kept refrigerated.  Don’t buy flaxseed oil in a clear bottle as it’s likely already rancid. Foods that are rich in EFA’s are cold water fish and shellfish, soya oil, canola (rapeseed) oil, hemp oil, chia seeds, flaxseeds, pumpkin seeds, leafy vegetables, and walnuts.  All of these are best eaten fresh and oils should be cold-processed and non-hydrogenated.  Our bodies need at least 3 tablespoons of EFA oils daily just for maintenance.   If you know you’ve not been consuming that much oil and butter, then supplementation with Linum B6 (3-6 daily) for 90 days is recommended in order to fill the deficiency.

 How it works

Vitamin F (EFA) is what transports calcium from the blood into the tissues, such as the skin.  Sunshine converts EFA in the skin (basically cholesterol, or fat)  into Vitamin D.  It is very likely that those who get skin cancer from too much exposure to UV rays (from the sun or from tanning beds) are also avoiding fats, such as butter, in their diet just for shapely looks, although cardiovascular patients may be avoiding fats to keep cholesterol numbers down.  Not wise.  You need fat, only the right kind of fat. Polyunsaturated fat is what the body needs.

Actually, the body can only use fat in the form of Arachidonic Acid, which is made from Linoleic Acid in the liver.  Arachidonic acid is not found in vegetable oil, but only in fat meat and butter.  (Margarine is a “phony” product produced by hooking two hydrogen atoms to the double-bond of linoleic acid, making it a saturated fat (stearic acid) that cannot latch onto fat in order to metabolize and burn it for energy).

Vitamin D takes calcium from the gut and puts it into the blood stream.  Vitamin F takes calcium from the blood stream and puts it into the tissues.   Calcium obviously plays an important role throughout the body, and especially in the health and integrity of the skin.

Thick, itchy skin and Vitamins D & F deficiencies

People who are deficient in Vitamin F (EFA) will get thick skin from too much exposure to UV rays.  In a deficiency of Vitamin F, Vitamin D will not only pick up calcium from the gut and put it in the blood, but will also bring calcium out of the skin and put it into the blood.  Your blood calcium will increase at the expense of your tissue calcium.

Tissue calcium deficiency results in itching skin and hives with too much sun – the big whelps that form around tender parts of the body.  These are symptoms of tissue calcium deficiency.  If you have these symptoms, you can be sure you are not getting enough EFA’s and/or calcium in your diet. You need calcium lactate, a readily available form of calcium, and flaxseed oil.

Drop me an email at tpal70@gmail.com for more information about supplementation.  In the meantime, enjoy the sun in the late afternoon, and only for 15 minutes, or until the skin begins to be pink.  And eat your fresh seeds and nuts, which are rich in essential fatty acids. And remember, margarine’s a phony.  “Butter’s better!”

COMMENTS AND CORRESPONDENCE WORTH SHARING WITH ALL

I receive emails with some very good questions.  Some of them, along with my answers, are worth sharing with all.  So here are some:

Q: Thank you for your info on the article that you wrote on EFA ..on the importance of butter ..
What about olive oil, oil palm etc.. are they suitable oil for Liver..
Where can I get the necessary info on all that you have written about..
Many people seem to blame the sun ..maybe it is our EFA that we should be concerned about.
Please provide more info if you have any.

DrP: Thanks for your email.  Olive oil is an excellent oil, particularly Extra Virgin or Virgin. Don’t bother with the “Pure” or “Refined” oils.  Palm oil is not recommended, nor cottonseed oil, as too many chemicals are used both in growing cotton and in extracting the oils from the seeds and palm kernels.  Best to use oils that are food-sourced, organically grown and cold processed.  Here’s a good website for organic palm oil: http://www.tropicaltraditions.com/red_palm_oil.htm

I obtained all of my nutritional information for this post on my blog from professional manuals that are not readily available to the layman.  You can obtain information about products online at www.standardprocess.com  then type in the name of their product you want info on.  You might call SPand ask for information/books/papers they may have to send you. There’s a very excellent book, “Know Your Fats” by Mary Enig if you want accurate info about EFA’s.  You can order it online through Amazon.

Understand, sunshine is good for us, essential to make Vitamin D, but too much of anything good always seems to do us harm.  For that reason, late afternoon sunbathing (4:30) is advised, especially at high altitudes, like here in mile-high Denver.  We should be concerned about our EFA levels. You’re so right.  Sounds like you’re doing your own thinking for yourself.

Q.  When I get out of the shower I cut a piece of alovera off and apply it to my face for all the reasons aloe is good for us (healing, cooling, moisturizing, etc). Later, when the aloe has had a good chance to absorb I add moisturizer to my face too (aloe feels tight and it’s shiny and I just like to use moisturizer). IF flax seed is good on the inside do you think it would be good on the outside too? I could pinch a flax seed capsule open and add it to the aloe so it would rub in smoothly and maybe, just maybe that would be a good idea to prevent sun damage on my face directly. I was thinking of adding flax seed to the aloe because maybe the flax seed is too thick like vitamin E. What do you think??? You have me thinking in this flax seed direction now.

DrP:  Ha ha!  So it seems I do!  Yes, in fact Standard Process Labs makes a tube of flaxseed ointment, USF Ointment, for application to skin, especially dry skin.  Any oil applied to the skin will sort of make your skin cook, so I would only use it after being in the sun.  I’ll be happy to send some to you ($17 + postage). Good question.  Thanks for asking.

Q:   If I take more, more more flax seed will I reduce, reduce, reduce my chances of skin cancer?? What are you a doctor of?

DrP:  All things in moderation is my motto when it comes to foods and sunbathing.  Of course we need sunshine, and our bodies need about 3 tablespons of oils daily just for maintenance.  If you are consuming oils, such as olive oil in salads, eating butter and cold water fish, walnuts and seeds, then you could take 1 – 2 tblspns of Flaxseed oil, or three Linum B6 pearls from Standard Process daily and feel safe out in the sun.  If you are EFA deficient because you have not been consuming enough oils daily, then you would need to take at least 3 tblspns of Flaxseed oil for 90 days, or 6 Linum B6 pearls, daily on top of increasing your consumption of EFA’s in your diet. It takes about that long to fill a deficiency of nutrients.  Yes, you would decrease your chances of getting skin cancer from sunshine by increasing your consumption of EFA’s.  Of course there are other causes of skin cancer, from genetic factors to free radial DNA damage due to environmental pollutants.
My profession is chiropractic and clinical nuitrition. I have 45 years of experience.  I am currently retired doing one-on-one health coaching.

Q:  I read through your comment concerning the LiveScience publication on ‘You and the Sun:10 Burning Questions’.  I would need to know more on possibly fruits/food contents of these vitamins that helps protect the skin or that refreshes the skin generally.

DrP:  Foods rich in essential fatty acids, or Vitamin F, are seeds and walnuts and any foods that have oils in them, such as olives, avocadoes, fish.  Dark green leafy vegetables, such as spinach, are rich in calcium, as are carrots.  Wheat germ (Vitamion E) helps protect the skin from oxydation because it is such a great anti-oxydant. The skin, as an organ of elimination, tends to reflect the other organs of elimination, such as the liver, kidneys and colon.  So it is good to support these systems as well.  Eating plenty of a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables guarantees an healthful intake of nutrients.  If you want to supplement your diet with whole-food nutritional proucts, I will be happy to assist you in acquiring them.  Let me know if I can be of any further assistance.

Q: The letter asked about eczema and Vitamins F & D.

DrP:  What you describe does indeed sound like eczema, in which case it certainly would help to support your skin nutritionally.  Eczema is a condition that reflects a deeper issue relating to liver toxicity or congestion.  I do have a protocol (nutritional program) for eczema that addresses the underlying cause.  If you wish to engage my services, I would be happy to guide you through a purification and healing process.

Q:  Just seen your article on vitiman f and skin cancer, would like more info on the supplements.

DrP:  The supplements I mention in my recent post on my blog are manufactured by Standard Process Labs www.standardprocess.com . You can go to this website and type in the product you wish information about in the small window up top that says SEARCH.  Linum B6, Cataplex F, Calcium Lactate are the names of products you can type in there.  If you want to purchase any of these products, you will have to do so  through a licensed practitioner such as myself.  I will be happy to help you obtain them.  I also do health coaching for a fee.  Let me know how I might be able to help you further.

Crohn’s Disease

CROHN’S DISEASE: ITS CAUSE AND CURE

by Anthony Palombo, DC, ACN

I. THE CAUSE

First of all, as with all health conditions in the physical body, Crohn’s disease has an energetic, or vibrational, underlying cause conditioned by mental and emotional patterns of thoughts and feeling-reactions that maintain an underlying condition of stress in the physical body.  These underlying stress-producing energetic patterns keep the body in a fight or flight response mode.  Any treatment to bring about a “cure” of Crohn’s disease must necessarily include addressing this underlying energetic cause.  Without this factor properly addressed and cleared, all treatments, medical and/or alternatve, will only bring about relief and management of the condition.

That being said, consider the following in light of this underlying causal factor.

Crohn’s disease is always preceded by chronic indigestion.  The cause of Crohn’s disease, diverticulitis, colitis and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is chronic indigestion.

In medical literature one will invariably find these words in the first paragraph under “Cause of Crohns”: “The cause of Crohn’s disease is unknown.” What is omitted in this statement are the words “…to medical science.”  Medical science then proceeds to guess at what causes it and then treat the guesses along with the symptoms.  The cause is not addressed because it is admittedly “unknown” to medical science.  It would be ignorant and arrogant to assume that the cause is “unknown” simply because medical science doesn’t know.

Here is the definition of Crohn’s disease taken from http://www.medicinenet.com/crohns_disease/article.htm.

“Crohn’s disease is a chronic inflammatory disease of the intestines. It primarily causes ulcerations (breaks in the lining) of the small intestines, but can affect the digestive system anywhere from the mouth to the anus.  It is named after the physician who described the disease in 1932.  It also is called granulomatous enteritis or colitis, regional enteritis, ileitis, or terminal ileitis.”

(Note: The Ileum is another name for the last section of the small intestines, the part that connects to the large intestines (or ascending colon), which is where the appendix is also located.)

To answer the question “What causes Crohn’s disease?” one must first answer the question “What causes inflammation in the intestines?”  Right?  So, let’s think this through by following the digestive process. But first let’s look at the inflammatory process.

The Cause of Inflammation

What causes inflammation is the immune system.  It’s the body’s way of dealing with infection.  Infection is the immune system’s way of dealing with foreign matter that is not being eliminated.  Food is foreign matter to the body.  It is supposed to be digested and then eliminated from the intestinal tract.

Remember, the inside of the alimentary canal, from the mouth to the rectum, is outside the body, although it runs through it.  In other words, it is part of the body’s immediate environment, just as dirt on your skin is external to the body.  In fact, the lining of the intestines is made from the same matrix of tissue (ectoderm) as skin.  It’s a membrane.  In other words, it’s skin.  The brain and nervous system are also made from the same matrix, the ectoderm.  Skin is an organ of elimination and has intelligence.  It is a very permeable membrane, however, letting in what will nourish the body and eliminating what is toxic and not handled by the other organs and glands of elimination.  The pH of the skin is a crucial aspect of its integrity.  High acidity will break it down.  Inflammation is created by the immune system, which is very pervasive throughout the intestines and colon,  in order to deal with the foreign substance that is irritating the membrane.  It is literally a fire, a localized febrile condition created to burn up toxins and dying cells.

Food that is not properly digested will cause acidity in the intestines.  Undigested protein will rot causing putrefaction. Undigested carbohydrates will ferment.  Undigested fats will go rancid.  Rancid fats destroy tissue immediately upon contact. This is why it is not good to eat rancid seeds and nuts or use rancid cooking and salad oils.  They also destroy HDL, the so called “good” cholesterol.  Cholesterol is essential to the structural composition of the cell wall . . . every one of the 100 trillion cells that make up your body.

 Digestion of Proteins and Carbohydrates

Protein is broken down and digested in the stomach by hydrochloric acid (HCL).  Hydrochloric acid  is secreted by the parietal cells lining the stomach at a pH (potential of Hydrogen)  of 0.8, very acidic, and by the time it mixes with the stomach contents  its pH increases to about 2.5.   Pepsin is the activating enzyme for HCL, but it can do so only in this high acidic condition.  This is why it is not smart to mix carbohydrates and sweets with meats in the same meal, as these foods set up an alkaline condition in the stomach, which will prevent pepsin from activating HCL, which in turn leads to indigestion.  This also goes for the digestion and conversion of carbohydrates into sugar, which takes place largely in the mouth. Ptyalin (salivary amylase) is the activating enzyme for carbohydrate digestion and it needs an alkaline condition to do its job properly.  So, you can see how these two chemistries are not compatible together in the stomach at the same time.  These enzymes are mixed with the food during mastication – which is why it is important to chew food thoroughly before swallowing it.  Lypase is the activating enzyme for the digestion of fats.

(Note:  HCL production in the stomach begins to decline around age 45, and our enzyme reserve runs low, so it is supportive of digestion to take an HCL supplement with meat meals.   I recommend Zypan by Standard Process Labs – www.standardprocess.com )

Poor Digestion and Stress

The function of the parietal cells, like all cells in the body, depends largely upon adrenalin.  This is why when a person is under stress, it is not wise to eat food, especially protein.  Vegetables and fruit are more easily digested during stressful times.  Stress puts the body in fight or flight mode sending most of the adrenalin to the muscle cells.  The body is not interested in growth and healing when it is focused on survival or running away from a stressor, such as a charging bull,  a stressful job or lifestyle, or long-term grieving and mental and emotional distress.  Toxins inhaled or ingested bring on stress just as surely as any other external stressors.  This is why cigarette smoking keeps the lining of the stomach inflamed, mainly from the chemicals (some 300 of them in the paper and tobacco).   Poor nutrition puts the body cells in a state of starvation stress as well.  When there’s stress, the parietal cells of the stomach shut down the production of hydrochloric acid, rendering protein undigestible.  Mental and emotional stress also produces acidosis throughout the body.

When protein is not digested properly, as I said, it will rot, producing putrid matter.  Putrefaction produces organic acids, which will erode the stomach and intestinal linings.  The acids of putrefaction and fermentation are what cause “acid indigestion” and “heart burn.”

It is not the hydrochloric acid that causes these symptoms, including ulcers.  In fact, it is the lack of hydrochloric acid that creates the condition of indigestion that leads to putrefaction of proteins. So when a person has “heart burn” after eating, while antacids do relieve the symptoms, they also cancel out the hydrochloric acid needed for digestion.  This sets up a condition for rotting meat and putrefaction of proteins in the gut further down the alimentary canal until the gas-producing material is finally eliminated.   While this putrid matter is in the gut, however, it causes all sorts of assault to the intestinal lining, creating the conditions for Crohn’s disease and cancer to develop.

So when a person has “acid indigestion” and “heartburn” he/she needs some digestive support. Betaine hydrochloride provides that support by starting up the process of digestion again, the only way to stop the putrefaction and fermentation of un-digested foods.  To take chemicals that stop the production of digestive stomach acids only adds insult to injury and really does expose the absolute stupidity and ignorance of pharma-driven medical science.  We have to add digestive acids to the stomach not eliminate them.  I cringe every time I see a TV commercial for such drugs.  God help us!  Zypan, a blend of Pepsin and HCL,  is a great product for this purpose (2-3 with or after meals). Drop me an email and I will send you a bottle. $15 (90Tabs) $42 (330T) plus postage.

The Digestive Process and the pH Factor

The gallbladder and pancreas produce copious amounts of sodium-rich bile and alkaline juices respectively to emulsify fat and buffer the 2.5 pH acids of digestion in the chyme (stomach contents) coming out of the stomach into the duodenum, the first 12 inches of the small intestines. The intestines, which are ideally happy with a 5.8 to 6.2 pH, would be distressed and burned by 2.5 pH content.  So, it is important that the gallbladder and pancreas produce their alkaline substances to buffer this acid.  Otherwise duodenal ulcers may develop.  The colon, on the other hand, likes a more acidic environment – for one thing, to keep yeast and fungus from growing and thereby giving rise to infection.   The colon should never be alkaline.

What can cause these alkaline substances to be depleted of alkalizing sodium?  Well, for one thing, over consumption of acid-producing foods – grains and proteins – which use a lot of acid-buffering sodium.  What builds up sodium reserves?  Vegetables, especially celery and cucumbers, and some fruits, such as prunes, plums and blueberries, are alkaline producing foods that build up your sodium reserves.  These alkaline-producing foods should ideally make up 80% of our diet.

When bile loses it alkalinity, it becomes thick and therefore cannot easily flow through the small common-bile duct.  Fat is not emulsified and therefore hardens to form stones.  Calcium will precipitate out of solution and crystallize, creating calcium stones.  When bile does not flow into the duodenum through the common-bile duct, the acid of the chyme does not get properly buffered and the fats are not emulsified.   This creates an acid condition that will burn the small intestines, causing irritable bowel (IBS) and colitis.   Bacteria, viruses and other pathogens will thrive in this acid environment.  This leads to inflammation and infection, the immune system’s way of dealing with pathogens.  Crohn’s disease develops as the lining of the intestines begins to get raw, eaten up by these organic acids.  This is why it will appear as “raw hamburger meat” in a colonoscopy. In this compromised condition, bacteria and viruses, along with undigested proteins and other toxins, easily enter the blood stream through the “leaky gut,” causing so-called “food allergies,” as well as infection throughout the body,  including the kidneys and bladder, organs of elimination of toxic waste fluids.

II. THE CURE

The “cure” of Crohn’s disease lies in the healing of the lining of the intestinal wall.   It also includes treating and clearing the underlying energetic patterns of stress, as mentioned at the start of this article.  One very effective method for addressing the energetic cause of disease is BioEnergetic Synchronization Technique (BEST), developed and taught by Dr. Milton T. Morter of Rogers, Arkansas (www.morterhealthsystem.com ).

Emotional Factors

In her wonderful and popular book, “You Can Heal Your Life,” Louise Hay suggests that behind inflammation in the colon (ileitis), which is what crohns is, may be a deep sense of fear and worry of not being “good enough.”  This deeply rooted pattern was likely put there early in childhood by a well-meaning parent who tried to motivate a child by telling it how stupid it was and berating it for not being able to do anything right.  A new thought pattern she offers could be: “I love and approve of myself.  I am doing the best I can. I am wonderful. I am at peace.”

To Heal the Gut

The enzyme pepsin is the primary repair factor for the intestines because it literally digests the heavy mucous that clings to the intestinal wall, mucous caused by meats and dairy products.  This mucous prevents nutrient absorption.  So, by digesting the mucous and getting it off the lining of the intestinal wall, nutrients can be more easily absorbed.  L-glutamine is the amino acid used in building protein molecules to repair the eroded lining of the gut.

Raw Okra

Okra is a popular southern vegetable that has lots of pepsin.  Okra Pepsis E-3 by Standard Process Laboratories is an excellent product for healing the intestinal wall.   The raw okra is a sticky and gooey mucilaginous green vegetable that sticks to the intestinal wall long enough to put the protein digesting (proteolytic) enzyme, pepsin, in contact with the protein based mucous.  The pepsin enzyme then breaks down the protein and thus destabilizes the mucous molecule.  That causes the mucous to fall away from the membrane where it can then be eliminated in the stool. That, in turn, frees the villi that line the intestinal wall enabling them to extract nutrients from the digesting food.

Vitamin E-3 is a very important part of the product, as it is a powerful tissue repair factor, along with enzymes.  Enzymes are the work horses of the immune system when it comes to repairing tissue throughout the body.  They need to be taken on an empty stomach so that they will not be used up digesting the food and can go to work on repairing the stomach and intestinal lining.

Nutritional protocols and cures I’ve used in my practice for years

Gastrexby Standard Process Labs is an excellent product for supporting the healing of stomach and duodenal ulcers.  Taken 2-10 minutes before meals, it relieves gastritis and promotes healing of the GI tract, especially the stomach and duodenum.  Beyond its primary role, it acts as a detoxifier.  Formulated with an absorbent bentonite clay (montmorillonite), which absorbs toxins and takes them out through the stool, Gastrex is an ideal product for healing the gut.  Then add the healing and desensitizing qualities of chlorophyll, Mother Nature’s healing balm, along with the healing factors of okra, duodenal extract, and silica, the pain is relieved instantly upon contact as the pain-causing acid is neutralized, while the oxygen-laden chlorophyll molecules bring natural healing elements to the cells of the intestinal wall.   It’s a win-win formulation.

The protocol for Crohn’s disease also calls for Cholacol II, which is a combination of purified bovine bile salts to buffer digestive acid and emulsify fat, bentonite clay for absorption of toxic waste, and collinsonia (root) herb to help with vascular tone and circulation in the intestinal wall.  Blood vessels take a beating with inflammation and often leak blood.  Cataplex ACP brings Vitamin C from dried buckwheat juice, rich in the antioxidant bioflavonoid (rutin – also known as “Vitamin P” for vascular tone), which is essential to the absorption of Vitamins A and C, healthy function of capillaries and connective tissues, and immune system support. Chlorophyll Complex Perlesare taken on an empty stomach to offer soothing healing balm to the eroding intestinal wall.   Finally, immune system modulation and support is brought on line with Immuplex and Echinacea Premium.

Supporting Digestion after the Initial Therapy

This protocol represents the initial 3-week therapeutic program for Crohn’s disease.  After three weeks of intense healing, we then start supporting the digestive system with Zypan(a pepsin & hydrochloric acid supplement), and Enzycore, a vegetarian enzyme blend to help break down protein, carbohydrates, and fat. It also delivers L-Glutamine to the cells, an amino acid used as a building block for other amino acids that provides energy to cells with high energy needs (like those of the intestines).  Enzycore also provides kale and beet powder to support healthy digestion.

Synergistic nutrients and herbs are included in the protocol for Crohn’s disease.  They include Boswellia Complexto support and cool down the inflammatory process, Calcium Lactate to facilitate and support infection fighting, and Chamomile as a sedative to calm down the tissue cells and relax the flat muscles of the intestines. St. John’s Wort herb is also included to deal with any “enveloped’ viruses that may be present in the gut.  Viruses are scavengers, opportunistic bugs that appear on the scene wherever decay is occurring in the body.  When they are “enveloped,” the immune system cannot deal with them.  St. John’s Wort dissolves that envelop to expose the virus to the immune system.  It also aids the liver in processing its chemistry in eliminating toxins from the blood stream.

ASEA — I am adding ASEA to this protocol after learning about its healing properties.  This is a new formula that provides Redox Signaling Molecules in a saline solution for enhancing inter cellular communication with the immune system and activation of antioxidants.  Click HERE to learn more about this amazing breakthrough in health science.

Era of Peace

Reading the pulse of public forums like Facebook, there appears to be a rising divisive wave of hatred globally. President Obama is a convenient target because he represents government, and people are frustrated with government. He’s also offering solutions to age-old problems facing us all, individually and globally. Half the population like the solutions; half don’t. The fact is, any solutions to our problems only create more problems, as we are witnessing. Makes one wonder about the real meaning of “problems.” Perhaps they are simply lessons that need to remain until we change what caused them: our behavior.

PURIFICATION  UNDERWAY

The hate wave arising in the world gives evidence of a deep purification process underway of the collective unconscious. Just as clean water flowing into a dirty cistern pushes out the filthy water as it replaces it, so is the in-filling current of love in the heart of humanity from within pushing out the hate. Behind it is the cool, clear water of the truth of life, which is oneness born of love. Love is striking at the feet of the biblical “great image” in King Nebuchadnezzar’s dream, made of a mixture of iron and clay, I speak of in my book, Sacred Anatomy.” — the great imagination we have about government and its “promise” to solve our problems. Why? So that we might survive our not-so-promising harvest?   Here’s the excerpt from my book:

The dream itself was of a great image that was fashioned of various ores. His head was made of fine gold, his breast and his arms of silver, his belly and his thighs of brass, his legs of iron and his feet, interestingly enough, were made with a mixture of iron and clay. What likely troubled king Nebuchadnezzar so was what happened in his dream to this image when a stone, “cut out without hands,” smote the image upon its feet. The feet mixed with iron and clay crumbled and the whole image came tumbling down and all that the image was made of: the gold, ther silver –the brass and the iron mixed with clay–was blown away by the wind so that nothing was left of it anywhere.  But the stone becamne a great mountain which filled the whole earth[Babylon, as you may recall, is now Iraq, and Persia is Iran.]

The Feet represent understanding, and iron and clay are two substances that do not bond or fuse. The image we hold in consciousness of government, of our economy, of our way of life, is crumpling, and it is manifesting as a last-ditch effort on the part of the collective human ego to survive, or at least stave off, its inevitable demise. The story as I use and interpret it in my book is, as I said, remarkably pertinent to the times and very worth reading. It’s a bit of a read, but a most engaging and captivating one.

Daniel interpreted the dream as a prophetical outworking that would see the rise ad fall of several empires, including Nebuchadnezzar’s Babylonian empire, which Daniel said was represented by the head of gold. There would be other empires to come after the Babylonian empire, such as the Persian, the Grecian and Roman empires. All would rise and fall. The stone represented the kingdom of Daniel’s “God of heaven” which would be established during the reign of these kings and would remain to fill the whole earth after these other kingdoms had passed away. This, of course, related to the Nation of Israel which came up largely right under the noses of the rulers of these empires. .

This may also be seen as relating to any spiritual body of people who are drawn together by love to give collective presence of and expression to the Spirit of God. Such gatherings start out very small and, to the extent they are consistently true to their purpose in spirit, bring a powerful focus of spirit to bear in human consciousness that has the ability to bring about change in the collective body of humanity and in the natural world.

[If you want to read a fascinating story with a remarkable parallel to current events, click on this link:  Story of Daniel  Cut out without hands, an excerpt of Sacred Anatomy.]

The Spirit of Purification at work

This could be a gathering in virtual space, such as on Facebook.   Hate and love do not bond together in any forum.  Such a forum will eventually crumble if it doesn’t clarify so that only love – or hate – remains.  I note an effort on the part of many on Facebook to negate and obliterate the presence of those who bring the wave of hate to the forum.  This gives evidence of the natural working of the spirit of purification.  When something is being purified out to clarify any substance, it pubbles to the surface where it can easily be skimmed off and thrown out, the energy that gave it substance having been resorbed into the whole.

Historically, when something is passing away it is being replaced by something else. In this case true divine ego, or identity, emerging in quiet waters through the hearts and consciousness of increasingly greater numbers, is replacing false human ego. The false ego wants a confrontation, because that’s what it knows and does best: fight for its “rights”. We are wise to take our leave of confrontational forums and rise to a higher level.  As Albert Einstein reminded us, problems are not solved at the same level as the problem but at levels above. There are those who have the following and voice to offer salve and wisdom into the pool of conflict.

The wave comes, the collective unconscious is purified of all that hate and fear, and the wave collapses, but not without taking out vast numbers who are caught up in the confrontation. I’m reading in “Three Cups of Tea” of the horrors innocent women and children have suffered at the hands of the Taliban in Afghanistan . . . and the horrors of war continue. Take heart, for this too shall pass. Believe it or not, we have entered an Era of Peace. Peace is replacing war and those who war are simply resisting peace. Those who hate are resisting love.

Find attunement with Love

The coarser and destructive vibrations do not feel the influence of the finer vibrations. But they will be resolved by them into Oneness, simply by reason of the fact that the finer essences penetrate the coarser substance, but the coarser cannot rise to hurt or nullify the finer.  Attunement with love is the only thing left for us. How blessed we are to know that we have the freedom and awareness to find attunement with love and then let love radiate into the mix of mounting chaos and dissonance without concern for results, knowing that love renews that which it touches.

I rather suspect that those who conduct social programs such as Facebook gain some satisfaction from the warring factors and hate waves that arise in the participants. There’s a great deal of force in hate, albeit destructive. There’s no real power to be gained in it however. There is only one power on the move, and it’s love. Or is it rather that the power of love is misinterpreted as hate? What is love, then?  I have to keep revisiting this mystery myself . . . daily.

Peace be in your heart . . . and in your mind,

Anthony

Drug and Vaccine Alerts!

I have been warning my HealthLight readers about the dangers of taking osteoporosis drugs, such as Fosamax, for over a decade.  Now the facts are out for all to read.  Bisphosphonates (Fosamax, Actonel, Boniva) cause brittle bones that fracture without cause.

Dr. Joe Mercola has been a reliable source of vital information relating to health and medicine.  I strongly advise you to go to his website http://articles.mercola.com/sites/current.aspx and read his current articles. They will blow your mind!

One is on the recent release of data relating to osteoporosis drugs and how they “kill” bone-regenerating cells (osteoblasts), causing femur bone fractures and in some cases causing the jaw bone to “rot and decay” in young women in their 50’s who have been taking Fosamax for “osteopenia” which is NOT a disease but normal in older women.

Another article is about the recent FDA shut down of a common infant vaccine due to animal virus DNA contamination.  Listen to the entire interview of Barbara Fisher by Dr. Mercola if you want to know the facts you will need to make an informed choice in your children’s health care.

Also read the article on how PepsiCo is “ditching” high fructose corn syrup due to startling research on how it’s contributing to juvenile obesity and a host of other diseases.  Raw sugar is better!

Stay tuned . . . and remember . . . All U need is love!

The Heart Knows Best

Welcome to Lifting Tones, my newest blog.  My name is Dr. Anthony Palombo.  I am a retired chiropractor and alternative healthcare practitioner from Louisiana up here with my wife to be with the grandchildren and to enjoy the Rocky Mountains and the blue Colorado skies.  I finally left the confines of the office after 43 years.  I continue to offer my expertise in clinical nutrition as a health coach.  If you wish to consult with me, send me an email at drpalombo@bellsouth.net and I will get back to you as soon as possible.  There is not a single health condition that would not benefit from nutritional and herbal therapies.

The sacred healing art of Attunement has held my deepest interest over the years, and I continue to offer this service when and where there is a need and a request, even long-distance.  To set aside a time for sharing attunement long-distance, simply drop me an email with your telephone number and I will call you.  I love doing this kind of sacred energy healing more than anything else.  I have learned the benefit of using sound in my healing  work as well and teach a workshop intensive in Attunement with Sacred Sound.  You can visit my website for more information. My website is  www.healingandattunement.com .

To visit my first blog, go to:  http://www.attunementwithsacredsound.wordpress.com

Special request:   Please go to http://NextTopAuthor.com/?aid=512 and vote for my book, Sacred Anatomy-where spirit and flesh dance in the fire of creation.  Your vote will help greatly in moving my book toward a plublishing contract with Hampton Rhodes Publishing and getting this important message out to the world.  Thank you, and thanks for asking your friends to vote for me as well.

Now to the main purpose of this new blog (which I invite you to subscribe to and follow).   During the last fifteen years of my professional carreer, I published a newsletter.  HealthLight was its name, and it was true to its name as a beacon of light shining upon a path to health and wholeness which I myself traversed for many years; still do.  It isn’t the traditional path of healthy diet and vigorous exercise – although it included a moderate amount of such essential ingredients.  My philosophy has always been:  eat for your heart’s  health eighty percent of the time and for your soul’s health twenty percent.  “Soul food” is often more beneficial than “health food.”   It is rather an internal path based more on spiritual values and perspectives than on physical values – more a spirit-based model of healing and wholeness (body-mind-spirit) than a medcal model of “fixing” health problems and issues.

Several fans of my newsletter have asked me – since I stopped publishing it when I retired two years ago – to bring it back, or at lease make some of the best and most inspiring and educational article available on the web.   So, what better way, I thought, than via a blog?!

Now I need to do a little digging through my filing cabinet back home in Louisiana, and see what I have saved on CD’s, before I start sharing these morsels of wisdom with you . . . but I will do it.  So bear with me . . . and follow me.  (I like that word  “follow” we bloggers use, although I encourage my fans to follow no one but their own heart and gut.)

Perhaps this little morsel of wisdom from one of my last newsletter will give you enough food for thought and meditation while I compose my next post.  Here it is.  Read it deeply –  with your heart as well as with your mind.

“No, you’re not going crazy.  Life is intensifying.  You’re simply going through transformation — from being ‘only human’ to discovering your divinity — from a state of needing to understand with your mind to one of knowing in your heart.  The heart knows and understands.  Listen to your heart. Welcome change.  Enjoy the mystery of life. Live well!”

Take care of your heart.  Till I see you again,

Dr. Anthony Palombo
